Grin Wings or No Wings?

If you use feminine napkins, do you prefer wings or no wings?

My answer: I've switched to no wings. It's less of a mess. My eyesight has changed so much that sometimes it's hard for me to see where to remove those tape thingies off the wings, so I decided for that reason alone to go wingless. Also, It's less trash and less fuss trying to wrap it around just right. I've grown more irritable these past few years, so the fewer steps and stress, the better.

I'm not sure if I'm trying to be funny, but I'm also serious. I can't deal with the wings anymore. I miss my youth. (Soon, I'll be approaching the change of life and will have to deal with that, too - that is, if I'm not already perimenopausal.)

I nearly always use wings, but I will agree itís trickier to fit them properly. Especially if theyíre made so that the back adhesive strip cover somehow pulls the wing strips off with it. So irritating when the wings get stuck to the pad so you canít use it if they donít come unstuck. The only benefit is that they stay in place better for me.

LOL - yup, that's what would happen to me! And here I thought it was my eyesight or something. I just can't mess with those wings anymore, LOL.

No wings. They just get unstuck and crinkled up. Dam adhesive panty liners over the years have plucked me bare, which was not the look this boomer was going for.

When I still had my period I used pads with wings. My periods were always awfully heavy so I needed lots of protection. Right now I use panty liners just for cleanliness and I use thin ones so no wings

I thought I was the only one!

I had endometriosis a while back, so I totally understand the need for wings during heavy flow. But I was also 20 years younger. I think our needs change as we age, perhaps.

I was a winger. I have to say that it's nice to read this thread and realize I'm past menopause.

Beth,

I love your sense of humor!

I'm still pre-menopause, but I'm approaching my 50s, so you never know.

I'm not sure whether I look forward to menopause or not. I'm a little scared of that transition, too. I think wings sounds easier than that, but I don't have the experience to make that distinction.

I started using wings again because I'm trying to find a natural cotton maxi pad. I don't use tampons, and the other brands use these new dry weave materials that give me the itchies whenever I try to wear them. My primary care doc suggested that I try switching brands. So I did, but they only make the ones with wings. They are okay, but almost too thin for my taste. I'm still looking for the perfect maxi pad. Oh the things women go through - especially before menopause. It's not like I'll need these pads forever, but I want to get comfy ones for the remainder of time that I still have my menses.

I have always thought that feminine protection could be A LOT more effective and A LOT less expensive.

Many years ago, when VAT was introduced in the UK, it was publicised as a tax on luxuries. It was at a time when we'd yet to have more female MPs and a female Prime Minister.

Guess what? VAT was added to feminine protection. Who's bright idea was that?! It's only recently that VAT has been removed. Two female PMs did nothing about it, when they could have shown themselves to be in touch with women's needs.

Meghan Markle has done a lot to promote awareness of period poverty around the world.

Back to the question, although I'm post-menopause, couldn't get on with wings. Crumpling, rucking up, sticking where they shouldn't (ouch!!). Panty liners used now for "freshness".

I prefer wings if my flow is heavy.

I found myself starting my period in India, and apparently tampons aren't readily available here. Unmarried girls and women are afraid of breaking their hymens. Guess there is still that obsession with physical virginity (even though there are lots of ways to break the hymen without having sex). Anyway, now I'm stuck with pads, and I find them to be a lot messier on heavy flow days.

Do they have the period underwear, kind of like depends but thinner? That might work in addition to wearing a winged pad.

I love Meghan Markle! She not only stands up for women's rights, but also human rights overall, including the rights of us fellow multiracial persons. She's a mixed race like me, and she interviewed in an article about not being just an "other."

Wings when periods were heavier in my 20s. Now that I am in my 40s, no wings. Periods are not as heavy - I no longer need the extra protection plus they're more of a hassle. But, back in the day... I wouldn't have dreamt of going wingless! I needed extra protection because I would get side leaks.
