Hi background story I started my periods when I just turned 10 years old. From then on until I was in my mud 20's they were extremely painful and extremely heavy as in soaking through clothes and bedding. Since starting Depakote for bipolar disorder when I was 25 my periods have went straight to light if at all most months I never get a period. I'm 37 now.

However on Monday I got a horrendous period in which normal sanitary towels (thick ones) aren't coping with it. I had had to go and buy Tena Incontinence Pants (something I had never thought of before) they I hate to sound gross but they keep the period in the pants no leakages, no issues of blood flowing down my legs (sorry TMI)... but I'm plagued by severe back pain and cramping. Both of which are not going away with paracetamol or ibroprefen (sp?)

Any tips on what I can do?

I can't have a bath as my period just looks like surgery all bloody ruining my towels, me and my flooring. Sorry again TMI!!!

Thanks in advance

I started my period when I was about 11. I had, normally, kind of heavy periods, I could go on Maxi Pads from Kroger. During school I would change them maybe once a day when that time of the month came around. I would soak them dry. During the night, I started using an Always size 4 or 5 because I soaked through the maxi pads. It would come spilling out the front onto my pajamas. When I did the whole 'no cheese' thang because the doctor told me to for my heart health, I had the biggest luck because the period was just like shreds and that was it. I have not been totally doing this. I am on a diet and it seems to help. A simple diet. I just only had to use Flex Foam during the day. And to continue this was just because of no cheese. Later on I decided to really binge eat on cheese slices and this lasted years. But I want to help myself again to the entire thing about a lite period.

Anyway, that is the only thing that I found out about having a lesser flow!

Good day to you!

I don't know if you want children. But I thought I would share that my OB/GYN has me on continuous birth control, I skip over the sugar pills when done with the hormone pills and then move on to the next pack. This is supposed to stop the periods but because my hormones are so out of whack I still have a period sometimes. We've tried this with a couple of birth control pills and the one I'm on now seems to be working best. Before trying this she tried to make my periods light and not two per month by having me take the placebos but only four sugar pills and 24 hormone pills instead of 21 and 7. the GYN also mentioned the IUD as an option and said that it makes periods shorter and lighter.
