My hair is sort of long, dry, damaged, and a bit frizzy. I comb it & I use conditioner on it once or twice a week, but it gets tangled like crazy everyday!

I use detangler too. How can I prevent tangles? Why does this happen?

Why only once or twice a week? It’s not enough, especially with dry damaged hair. You need to apply more moisturizer and more than once a week. Every time you wash your hair, you need to moisturize. Do hair masks and leave on conditioners too-not every time. Detanglers might not moisturize enough. Ask your hair dresser what products they recommend for your type of hair

I thought that hair only needs to be washed once or twice a week. Thanks for the tips.

Maybe it’s ok I don’t know. But if your hair appears unhealthy, you might need to change what you do. I wash my hair every other day. Once a week wouldn’t work for me.

Also hair goes dry when it’s too long. You need to trim it periodically

Get some heavy duty conditioner... hair masks... put it in your hair and wrap a hot towel or make it sit on your head for about 30 minutes. Do it about once a week. Think of it as "deep conditioning." It should help. I put conditioner on my hair and put it up on a clip while I do the rest of my shower business. When I take a bath, I do the same, but for longer. A long time ago, I would buy the Suave Green Apple conditioner and put it on my hair before I went swimming... under my cap... so that my hair would smell nice after a swim. The heat from my head and the silicone cap gave extra warmth. If your ends are fried, get a trim. With long hair, if I wear a scarf, the hair on the back of my neck gets tangled. I use children's detangler for that issue before I brush my hair - children's because it smells good

So I think your hairdresser is the best person to ask because they really know your hair texture. I also wonder if you dye your hair. That really dries it and you need different type of products/brush/styling methods m. So bottom line is that your hair stylist is the person to ask. We really don’t know the type of hair you have

I have long, fine hair and find that braiding it or otherwise tying it back when I sleep helps to keep it get from tangled.

I also use a moisturizing styling cream after washing and conditioning my hair. Asking your stylist for specific recommendations sounds like a good idea.

Well that it explains it. Have you asked your hair dresser how to combat your hair issues?

She suggested some expensive treatments like Olaplex & K18z I just bought some expensive $60 shampoo that I can’t really afford.

I also find that braiding helps a lot. Especially sleeping in braids. And that is what my grandmother did. I have naturally curly hair that has always gotten easily tangled up.

I don't know if they still make this, but as a kid I used to use Johnson and Johnson's No More Tears detangler after shampooing. I still sometimes have trouble, as my hair is shoulder length but kind of medium in texture with permed curls. The hair under my neck is the most trouble.

Conditioner that's the leave-in kind might work, as long as it's not too heavy. Since your hair is dry, the moisture could help too. I use a wide toothed comb after shampooing to work out tangles. On windy days or at the gym, I have it in a ponytail or up with a clip. At bedtime I always have it up, otherwise it'd be a real mess in the morning. And hair is hot, it holds in body heat. Or head heat.

Your hairdresser might have some ideas too as Rechu mentioned.

BTW I was talked into mine by spending $35 on conditioner that's supposed to bring out highlights in gray hair more, while toning down the "brassiness". Like you I really can't afford it but thought I'd try it just once. I don't know if it really matters.

I think you might be having these issues because you aren’t using right products. Stuff for kids isn’t formulated the same as for aging adults. You said your hair is dry and damaged, it won’t get better if you use kids products, not moisturizing or repairing enough
