There are blonde women with facial hair. Infrequently, but it happens. Hormones, most likely. And then laser/IPL would not work on them because there is no pigment to attract the light. So you are still lucky.

I am blonde but have very dark body and facial hair (eye brows and the rest). Having said that me being blonde is anomaly. My family is all dark haired

Oh yeah, eyebrows. I've fought a battle with them most of life to keep them a shape I like as opposed to a bush.

I've started to notice hair growing in grey which so far I pluck. Luckily it's just 1 or 2 at this stage. But I worry what it will look like in 10 years. I suspect that once they're mostly white, I'll probably dye them dark.

And another eyebrow pet peeve of mine, what is it with old people cutting / shaving their eyebrows back to near stubble - I think it looks awful, but then again I have very long eyebrow hairs for the most part and I like how they look.

Upper lip hair, does yours also grow fast & dark?

I also have long brow hairs, all my life. As a teenager they were so thick and dark, and people kept saying I should pluck them.

I've had to use eyebrow pencil to fill in the gaps caused by the plucking of gray hairs. I pluck them because they are coarse and unruly. I too worry about having gray brows in 10 years. But they'll match my hair. Also I noticed they are growing in more on the left side than right. Geez I never had trouble until now as I've older.

Eyebrow stubble on old people looks bad to me too. On a related note, so does too much make up. It makes them look older.

It’s not always hormonal. Its often genetics and ethnicity related. Like almost every blonde person I’ve met from Bulgaria had dark eye brows and dark body hair. Turkish mix somewhere. Etc my family is a mixture of variety of ethnicities some of which are very dark and some typically rather fair, so in me they all manifest themselves by being all mixed in, including unexpected blonde hair.

How interesting! I did not realize that people from Bulgaria and from Turkey can have blonde hair.

But I know well about dark body hair in certain ethnicities. I frequent a local Iranian grocery store and various hair removal products are displayed the first thing you walk into the store, front and center (even though it is primarily a grocery store, not a drugstore).

Bulgaria, not Turkey. Bulgarians are Slavic, so blonde hair is common for them, but because they mixed with Turks and other cultures for centuries they often have dark features like eye brows and eye lashes etc

Yes, I realize that Bulgarians are Slavic, I am Russian myself, but I thought that Southern Slavic people generally are dark haired. I do understand about centuries of mixing with Turks.

Do you know how to cook a sour milk soup? I was taken to Bulgaria to spend a vacation on the Black sea when I was a child and the cafeteria served sour milk soup, a Bulgarian specialty, every lunch. I hated it then and did not eat it, but now I would enjoy it, having grown very fond of various fermented milk products. I think I should find a recipe!

I am assuming you responded to the suggestion of estradiol. You will need health insurance for it. You also will need to be on progesterone, too, while on estradiol. The easiest method of getting progesterone is going on a progesterone-only IUD and there are small enough IUDs to be worn by women who have not given birth. It is a one time procedure and then you can wear the device for 5-7 years. You probably can have it done at a low cost at a Planned Parenthood clinic. But estradiol is a monthly cost, typically for patches, so you need continuous access to healthcare for it.

Hormone-replacement therapy is most effective when started early. So this is something to look into right now, without waiting.

I picked up an issue from the Mayo Clinic on women's health over 50 at the grocery store. Leafing through it, I learned something new: see Vaniqa Topical: Uses, Side Effects, Interactions, Pictures, Warnings & Dosing - WebMD @splitimage

Great subject @jesyka !

I have Middle Eastern, Hawaiian and Indian backgrounds in my genealogy - and needless to say I had a FULL BEARD growing up as a kid. It was just awful. (my mom would at least take me to get waxed which is traumatic in itself). The mustache was the biggest problem though as it always came in dark and thick. As I got older and got a good job, I invested in the laser treatments and did them for almost four years. (Body hair was also a problem so I did my arms and belly area too, let's not even get into to what my thighs look like, ugh, what a curse).

That being said, even I when I couldn't afford the laser anymore, it stopped growing as thick on its own. I know I shouldn't, but the under the chin hairs are still very problematic, so I just shave like a man and cover it with makeup. No one really notices and it isn't as problematic as it used to be when I was younger.
