Is it just me or does the belief that hitting or harming a woman (cis and/or trans) in anyway is supporting equality sound very discriminatory and aggravating?

It’s commonly heard all over the media, especially the action genre. And it bugs me, not for the action, but the preachiness of it all. It just sounds like a cocky chauvinist boasting how he’s not sexist because he apparently HAS to hit women. Even the phrase “I don’t hit girls/I don’t want to punch women” turns me off, because why would you want to??

I know I might be overreacting but it’s something I recently acknowledged. Some of you might be assuming “what about the women who commit assault and sexual abuse towards men?”. Yes, there are women who DO abuse men, however to use that to justify committing abuse against women is inexcusable.

The assumption of “equal rights, equal fights” in terms of gender equality makes me sick to my stomach, because the encouragement of violence against women and transgender people rings true in our society. It sickens me how many cis and trans women (and even trans men) are vulnerable to violence and brutality. The belief that violence against women and trans people supports equality is overall harmful and a dangerous criminal offense.

Perhaps I’m giving it too much attention, but I feel that encouraging violence to support equality is a huge setback. No one should be harming anybody, man or woman, binary or nonbinary. If you see someone harming another person, report it. Don’t stoop to their level but don’t let them walk all over you.

Yeah it sounds like violence takes priority over equality in their value system. They are not fooling anyone with that.

Encouraging violence is terrible and it has nothing to do with equality.
