Have any of you ladies hear of Pueraria Mirifica? I take it to combat the side effects of my psychiatric medication. My nipples and clitoris are sensitive to pleasure again. It's refeminising my face slowly but surely. Plus, I'm having periods again after 6 months of not having one. My hair is falling out a lot less even after washing my hair in the shower. I love that stuff. I recommend talking to your doctor about taking it if you're taking antipsychotics or are going through menopause.

I have looked it up. It is a phytoestrogen and there have been small clinical studies in which it showed promise but more research is needed. There were no mentions of clinical trials to evaluate its promise in ameliorating side effects of antipsychotics but maybe the source I have just read is incomplete.

The obvious question then is: how about progesterone? Are you on Mirena? Skyla?

Prescription HRT consists of a combination of estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen taken alone can be dangerous. To prevent damage to the endometrium, estrogen needs to be counterbalanced by progesterone either via progesterone-only IUDs such as Mirena or Skyla (there is a third one but I forget its name) or orally. Together, estrogen and progesterone can work very well.

So, if this Thai herb is an alternative form of estrogen, where do you get progesterone from to counterbalance the estrogen?

And regarding bone density -estrogen is good for that but you also need weight bearing exercises and a diet rich in calcium and vitamin D. But that you know well, I am sure - aren't you an athlete?

I'm not on progesterone. No, I'm not an athlete. All I know is that P.M. works for me so I'm gonna keep taking it.

I understand! I can only imagine the joy after your period returned and erogenous zones came alive again. But look into progesterone because the symptoms of taking estrogen w/o progesterone may not manifest itself until it is too late.

From the Mayo clinic: "If you haven't had your uterus removed, your doctor will typically prescribe estrogen along with progesterone or progestin (progesterone-like medication). This is because estrogen alone, when not balanced by progesterone, can stimulate growth of the lining of the uterus, increasing the risk of endometrial cancer."

Thank you for letting me know this. I will look into herbs that increase progesterone too.
