Yes, most of the patients treated for this are women, and there are social issues at hand for that, but it does not automatically rule out men. There is a climbing number of men who have this problem also.
I would ask myself to recall moments when thee temptation to give up eating is there and why. I have had encounters with the temptation to give up food myself and teh moments those thoughts hit are usually moments in life when I feel like I have lost control of things. It seems that the only thing in life that you can control is eating and health issues. Since dieting and bodyshape issues have been so over-emphasized lately, the question of body image and control are growing in both genders. Men usually take on body concerns by building up muscle mass because that is the social image of man. Therefore, there is less evidence that the man is experiencing eating disorders. Society places teh emphasis for women on slimness so the attempts to give up eating is more evident in more women. |

They might think you have it because of your actions or possibly your dropping body mass. There is some reason they are making these accusations.

in high school my friend laura was always accused of being anorexic because she is so tiny. she eats like crazy and just doesnt gain weight. shes like a tongue depressor. some people are just naturally tiny people. i know several girls who say that being called anorexic is just as bad as overweight people being called fat. because you try and try and can't gain/lose weight, and people make comments acting like its your fault.
however, people do have reason to be concerned with how much nervous diseases like this are popping up. anorexia is a newer disease and hits teenage girls the hardest. if youre really not anorexic then just tell people to shut up. it effects men too, but not to as high of a degree. however, when thinking about that we have to remember that its much harder for men to come forth with problems like that. society says that men don't need help. so theyre less willing to get help for problems like this. it still effects women more, but the number of men effected is probably much higher than we think. same thing goes for rape. |
