... as opposed to shaving? I've been looking at a model by Braun for quite a while but I've never used this method. Can anyone offer me any thoughts? I've picked out the Braun model because of the many positive reviews I have read.

I tried it maybe 15 years ago and didn't like it - it took longer than waxing, therefore it prolonged the pain. I would never use it on the areas that REALLY need it, such as pits and pubes -- just on my legs where the hair is finer. I have a friend who uses one on her arms, and I guess if you have hairy arms, it might be a better choice than shaving.

I stick with waxing - get it over and done with all in one shot.

I prefer waxing. . .epilator grabs the hair and rips it out. . .but not in one consistent direction, which is what is needed to prevent ingrown hairs. Ingrown hair can cause infection. Think. . .infection at your frontal panty line. Not my cup of tea.

MUCH prefer waxing!

Never tried it. I was going to go the waxing route, but I hated the thought of continuing to pay for it just to have the hair grow back. So, I'm getting laser hair removal. I've only been once so far, but it wasn't that painful.

I've never considered waxing. Is it a mess? And do you girls do it yourself or have it done?

I get it done. It's not much cheaper to do it yourself and it takes much less time (which equals less pain). I've been fortunate enough to find the cleanest wax place imaginable, and my esthetician is very, very quick and gentle.

There is a new place in my town that provides a shot of whiskey before each wax - http://www.waxon.com . I realize that you don't leave anywhere near me, but I thought you might get a kick out of some of the salon's slogans ;-)

Wait - updated - they're a little raunchy. Don't look at the ads page if you're extremely conservative! anyone use an epilator?

Never used an epilator, have only had eyebrows waxed, rest is self-service.

Oh my gosh LMo, I am moving to Washington just to go to that salon, it looks so cool, and the people really seem lively and fun!!!

Hmmm, think my kids will mind going from the East coast to the West coast...naaahhh..

Myself being from the east coast, I can definitely say that the transition from east to west is wayyyyyyy easier than the other way around!!!
