I haven't started yet except for the night sweats and hot flashes. I'm still so regular that you can use me as a calendar, but my sister tells me that something quite similar to what you are experiencing is happening with her. She's 49 and it's been going on for a couple of years.

I would strongly suggest seeing your doctor though. I just don't like the LONG periods.. I don't know if this is what menopause does, but my daughter (who is only 21) was going through three to four month periods and she became quite anemic.

I'm 46 also and haven't had a period in 7 months. I have the hot flashes - constantly hot. There is a blood test that your doc can do to verify that you are in menapause, that's what mine did.

Good luck.

I've always had issues with my period. Skipping a month or three then making up for it by bleeding for a month. When I was about 21 I went a whole year without a period for no reason. They ran a bunch of tests and did not come up with an answer. About 10 years ago the OB/GYN I was seeing decided that this was too unhealthy (I have never tolerated the pill very well) so he'd give me a shot to start it, then when it didn't quit in a reasonable amount of time, he'd give me another to stop it. I put up with the two shots a month for about 6 months before I said I'm done.

Menopause happens in stages and it can take up to 10 years to complete.

Great. I am so not looking forward to this. Is there anyone who had a good experience with menopause?
