I'm almost 37 and think I'm too young to start menopause but wonder something. I just had my period about a week ago and am bleeding again. When I had my period last week it was very light barely enough to fill a tampon and today it is very hard and I am very crampy. I plan on calling my doc but do I have a right to be concerned or am I worrying for nothing? I am not on the pill because I smoke and he won't put me on the pill because of that and right now I'm not willing to quit.

probably not menopause but something you should have checked out. break thru like that could have indications of something else going on. also since you had the weight loss surgery your system might be going thru something crazy too. have yourself checked out!

I talked with the doc's office this afternoon and they said there was nothing they could do until I stopped bleeding. They also said there was probably nothing wrong. They asked if there was a possiblity I was pregnant I assured them NO!! I told them that requires a man which I do not have in my life right now. My doc's nurse told me not to worry though.

jbug there is a shot to stop the bleeding! My OB/GYN would give me a shot to start and a shot to stop in an effort to shock my system into regulating itself.

37 really isn't young to be in the beginning stages of menopause, the whole process takes about 10 years to complete. Talk to your mother, Aunts, and grandmothers, this could be a genetic thing. The women in my family start the change early.

I talked to both my mom and my aunt and my mom said she started menopause in her late 40's and my aunt said she started in her late 50's. So that makes me believe that its just my PCOS going wonky. If it happens again next month I'll make an appointment with my doc when I stop bleeding and have him give me a once over. He said he couldn't do anything until I stopped bleeding.

Jbug are you seeing a general practitioner or an OB/GYN? I think in this case you’d be better off seeing the GYN. My cousin has had female problems since she started menstruating and saw some really good pdocs; but she went in because of bleeding issues and to try to find out why she and hubby are unable to have children. GYN ran some extensive tests and discovered she has some syndrome that I cannot recall the name of, but she doesn’t ovulate. She’s been seeing doctors for 10+ years trying to find the source of her female issues and now finally has some answers.

Like I said, there is a shot that you can get that will stop the bleeding.

I see a GP. He's really good but if I continue to have problems with my cycle I'll ask him to refer me to an OB/GYN. I've just had a bad experience with an OB/GYN and am scared to go back to one. She told me I had something wrong and did a really bad test and found out I didn't have it and then put me on the pill to stop my period but put me on the wrong pill to do that and made my periods worse and then didn't apologize and got real snotty so I quit going to her. I went back to my GP for my gyno problems. I do think though since I have PCOS that maybe I should go to an OB/GYN.

An OB/GYN is the one person that you really have to be comfortable with! When I was preggers with my twins, I saw an awful man that I continued to see only because he was the only one in town that didn't instantly jump to the conclusion that I needed a C-Section. As it turned out, the positions that they were in made it impossible to deliver naturally, but my guardian angel must have been looking after me because I went into labor the day he went on vacation and wound up with an awesome doctor (eventually).

Talk to your friends, see who they like and why.

I went online to my hospitals website and looked around to their clinics and found a clinic that I thought looked good and emailed them for an appointment in the next few weeks. The lady I made the appointment her picture and credentials made me feel confident. If after our meeting she doesn't live up to my expectations I'll switch but I just have this gut feeling she will be "the one". I love my GP but sometimes his realm of knowledge of the women's anatomy isn't all it's cracked up to be and with me having a specific problem I think you are right that I need to see an OB/Gyn.
