I've always had problems shaving. Yes, I know thats stupid but I've never really been able to get my legs smooth. I have trouble with manual razors because the blade seems dull. I bought one last week and the first time I used it the blade seemed dull and sometimes the manual razors leave red dots on my skin. I was told that it may have something to do with the razor I use. I was also told that I should get an electric razor instead of a manual. My question is what do some of you use, electric or manual? If you use electric do you use rechargable or battery operated? Sorry for so many questions but I'm trying to find a razor that I can use and that is refillable.

the electric ones might be nicer on the skin once you get used to them, i'm ont sure...
but for manual (which is what I use).... what do you put on your legs before you shave? Sometimes I just put on some soap that I lather up a lot, but it makes a HUGE difference putting on some shaving gel/cream beforehand. It lathers better and there's stuff like aloe vera/vitamins that help the skin in it. Maybe that might help with the shaving? |

You might try Tend Skin. I'll put a link for purchasing it from Sephora, but if you are adventurous (or poor and willing) you can search the web for homemade recipes. It is used after shaving and reduces the red bumps fromr razor burn. I know men who use it on their faces after shaving, but women can use it too for legs, etc.

Hey maymie... I use a 'manual' razor myself, and sometimes do get that red spotty skin problem... unfortunately Ive not made the switch to an electric one, but I've had luck using products that remove hair chemically (Nair, I think)

Try exfoliating your legs first to remove any dead skin, I find this helps a lot. I use baking soda in the shower just before shaving and my skin comes out smooth.
Before I had the same problems with red spots and feeling like I hadn't really shaved. __________________ Just when the catepillar thought the world was over it became a butterfly. -proverb |

A few things I've been told or discovered myself:
-you have to use a new blade every time. I used to recycle mine at least 4-5 times as blades are so expensive but if you don't use a new one each time you end up with more bumps & cuts. -let your skin get really wet first, shampoo & all that first, then lather on lots of shave gel a section at a time to begin shaving -don't use the triple blade razors (a nurse at a dermatologist's office told me that), they give you more bumps & dermatitis she said. I use a double blade one that has an aloe vera strip on the top of the blades. Oh yeah, manual of course. Would like to try electric but not sure what kind would be best or if they work that well. -neosporin clears up the red bumps pretty quickly I found (just make sure no one will be touching you or smelling you though!) |

I use a manual razor,
One trick is to put lotion on before you shave and after you shave, it helps moiturize the skin and stops that razor rash from showing up. Get your legs really wet, and use soap or shaving cream or shaving gel. Never used an electric razor...may have to check that out |

Heres a neat tip most people wouldn't think of -
Shave with conditioner instead of shaving cream! I read this in a magazine and it really does work! |
