I'm really stressed about my job. I've been working here for about three months now, and it has been very different than what I was originally expecting. I was looking into transferring to another site (my job is through Americorps) but now I just don't know what to do.

Another big stress that is looming over all Americorps workers heads right now is the fact that congress has suggested to cut the entire Americorps program and if they vote to do that it would be effective immediately.

I never thought that something like this would happen. I thought that when I started this job, (I have a one year contract) that I would have the job for at least a year. Now I might not keep the job, depending on what happens.

YIKES! any support would be much appreciated.

Embracing Life, I totally empathize. Security seems to elude most of us right now when it comes to the workplace. I wonder if that doesn't contribute to more depression and panic in people who might otherwise be managing just fine. Honestly, it seems to just get worse, this economy, despite all the talk of a 'jobless recovery'. I mean, really, what is a 'jobless recovery'? If you don't have a job it isn't a recovery at all FOR YOU--doesn't matter how Wall Street is doing.

Yeah, I've actually had a few suicidal thoughts today....that's how bad it is. but I know that isn't the answer. I'm scared of what is going to happen....but also hopeful that everything is happening for a reason, and that eventually things will be okay.

One thing that helps me that may or may not help you is reminding myself that I am more than my job or the money I make (or don't).

It can be hard to believe that but it's true.

Don't let the suicidal thoughts go too long. Talk to your doctor or someone in a professional capacity. Depression can get bad fast if you ignore it. It's better with help and support--there's no reason for you to gut this out alone.

Embracinglife,

I'm really sorry - it's scary that your entire program could get cut by the government.

I have no words of wisdom, just wishing you well.

right now I'm just trying to hope that it doesn't end up getting cut. It's been a stressful day, but I guess if that is the worst case scenario---and i'm sure I could live with that, then maybe I shouldn't be worrying too much. Whatever happens, happens...and hopefully I keep my job.
