I talked to my career coach who was also acting as the recruiter on the Mississauga job. He said the interviewer liked me, and thought I had the skills to do the job, but got scared off when I asked to work flex time to accomodate a weekly medical appointment. He thought I might get overwhelmed and not be able to do the job.

Lesson learned - do not bring up the need for flex time, until the job offer is firmly in hand.

Thanks for this!

Pretty much ANY special needs, splitimage. Of absolutely any kind whatsoever. One's task at an interview is to be whoever it is they really want to hire. Once the fish is on the hook (that's them, not you) there's plenty of time to go over special needs. This might be thought to be disingenuous, but work is not church, and interviewers are not father confessors.

Everyone brings to the hiring process their own needs and wants, both employers and would-be employees. And general commercial morality doesn't require the kind of purity and truthfulness hoped and longed for in parent/child, therapist/patient or confessor/penitent relationships. While I wouldn't agree with some that it's a dog-eat-dog world, there certainly are some dog-eat-dog aspects. Take care!

I had a similar experience, only flex time needed was to pick up a child (late) at school, requiring me to leave at 4:30 some days. They didn't even want to risk that. So, as others said, lesson learned.
