hi, never been in here before. i hope i get better advise than i have gotten from other professional business sites. i am 26 yrs old, i got my degree AAS Network Administrator no certs too costly for me 2 yrs ago. got of college, no jobs in the state i live in. AZ is not a technology state never was but there are network admin jobs they just want over 5 yrs experience.

from my research for the workforce connection, it takes 7 yrs to be a network admin that's not what i was told in college. i was told you will graduate and make all of this money that's what they told the IT students. even help desk jobs want either 2-3 yrs or over 5 yrs for "entry level." ok, i am seeking entry level zero experience so i can start from the bottom up and work my way up like it used to be a long time ago.

i don't have much work experience i did have a job in 05 for 7 mos didn't last because managers screwed me and the other students over with our schedules and refused to accommodate after that. i have applied to everywhere, even the low paying jobs will not hire me. i would like to move out but how is low pay gonna pay my bills, car, etc? i dont want a roomie i want to move in with my bf when we get jobs.

we have been to a lot of workshops thru these career centers and workforce connections and still nothing. we got better tools by attending a 2nd workforce connection but they told us their job is to give us tools not to get us a job.

i dont have money to go back to the workforce connection to turn in my research to my counselor to do short term training using the gov's stimulus money for them to pay for it for me. i do need to update my IT skills but all i know for over 17 yrs is old technology from what my dad taught me.

some people think i should teach computers, no thank you i have no interest and i am not patient nor the teaching kind of person. i have a linkedin account the most unprofessional site ever! they are worse think they are all that because of their x amount of years in the work force but the most unemployed people i have met on there! they gave me and other people i know nothing but horrible advise for jobs and what not. it was general job advise didnt mean it fit into my situation or finances. they told me your 26 you have all your years to work what kind of advise is that?!

yep, that's the advise i got even my ex counselor from another workforce i went to last year said the same thing when i was 25. none of my contacts can't help me with what i am seeking. you know, it's fine if i don't get an IT job but i'd like to work on my creative side along with my technical side.

there are things i don't have skills for nor was i ever taught them by my parents and they refused to let me grow/blossom because they felt kids do not need to grow/blossom their job is to be a slave to their parents and obey.

i have been told to volunteer, what about my bills and livelihood?! nothing wrong with volunteering but that is the poorest advise i have heard now in this depression just to get a job. i have talked to people who have volunteered at 5-6 different places and still didn't land not one job thru the nonprofit agency hmm i wonder why. 5-6 volunteer places, that would have been it for me that is just too much time wasted of a contract for 6-8 months or a month whatever the contract said it was for how long.

that advise is not working at all because nobody is benefiting from volunteering because they are not even getting hired from the nonprofit they are working with! my financial situation is so bad its not even funny the money i get (not from UI or my bank accounts the bank account has been dried for 2 yrs) pays 2 months of my cell phone bill and thats it with a lil bit left over for gas! my parents arent helping they tell me life is like the 40s and i shouldnt complain about suffering they arent helping either so they have no business telling me i am not allowed to suffer.

a lot of times i have applied and don't hear back from the employers. i had one interview last month at a temp agency and the manager is an accounting manager. my bf's mom met her at a tire shop she didn't know the manager is an accounting manager. the manager knew nothing about IT nor network admin assuming you just type on a computer all day!

i'm like refer me to an IT manager! the manager was nice and everything but knew nothing about a computer. the temp agency had no jobs for me to start from the ground up and barely had those from their clients they wanted experienced people. she said she would keep a look out for me on jobs and never heard from her. worst advise again on temp agencies from the workshop i attended at the end of last month i do want the experience but i am not waiting on end for them to get back with me!

temp agencies are just as bad as the other employers they wont hire to train or give you experience! why am i here then? lol temp agencies is again out of the question. the thing that is very upsetting and concerning me is lack of money to get to the job/interview especially if they are in another part of town that consists of driving a lot. the 2nd workforce i went to is 26.4 miles from me and it ate 3/4 of the gas going there!

the state i live in you need a car to get by, yes, we do have a bus system but it is horrible. i should know i took the bus a lot b4 getting a car (didnt buy the car my mom did its an old bucket) these bus drivers dont wanna drive the bus late because they have families. its a big mess here thats why most ppl have cars.

with my lack of finances and needing to restart all over again, i fear if i get hired or an interview that i will not have the gas to get there. i hate begging my mom forget my dad on gas money when she promised (verbal contract) to help me until i get a job. i hate begging people for gas money im sure someone will say have ur friend drive you, i know how selfish ppl can be with their cars been there done that. i have asked for rides not all the time but only to short distances and they pitched a fit - a short freakin distance like 6 miles was so far and it wasn't out of their range either.

i dont know anyone who would hire me to do an odd job for extra money. i do not use craigslist anymore for anything including a job too much suspicions on there and nut jobs. the city i live in doesnt have much for jobs hence is why i go to the next neighboring city to find jobs. i did give a friend my resumes to give to her bosses and never heard from the company.

job fairs are such a waste of time they say the same bs i hear in interviews. i only have one job from 05 and when i didnt have a car, it was very hard to get a job since it requires a car to get around the state. at these workshops, if only i knew what i didnt know in high school and college, i would have more jobs under my belt plus my own parents didnt teach me anything about working hard, good ethics, jobs, job hunting, etc in high school at all.

i would go to networking events but again no gas or bus money to go nor do i have business cards. other than that, i am just out of options. freelancing need to build my skills up i did think of doing that. i am not sure what to do anymore for a job any advise/suggestions? no, i would never use my parents as a resource. mom never worked in over 30 yrs and dad has a terrible track record with past employers always screwing them over etc no thanks i dont want that on my record.

I would look at the State https://secure.azstatejobs.gov/pljb/...cant/index.jsp

your local/county government and all the schools; everyone needs IT these days but they, especially.

I'd see if I could get a job at Best Buy or somewhere and find out how to get into the Geek Squad training program http://www.bestbuy-jobs.com/ They're going to be doing a really cool new thing with Best Buy I'd want to join if I could: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...608579948.html

I'd check the cable companies too, see if I could get any sort of job with them or Verizon, etc. and work my way into a more IT sort of position.

best buy requires experience like anywhere else and if i do something IT guess what? they want certifications which i dont have. i know about az state jobs not telling me anything i don't know. there is no state/federal job that has anything that will train me as much as i check out the state jobs there is nothing for me.

gov jobs still take forever for them to contact you. i dont think you have worked in IT every IT job in any company will say over 5 yrs experience i have read all of the ads. certifications after certifications galore and if you dont have that they won't hire you i knew that a long time ago, it used to be they would make exceptions but not anymore.

im lucky if i heard back from the gov on jobs that i have applied. i always get the rejection emails from the gov.

best buy is hiring for a cashier i dont have cashier experience nor do i have good money handling experience can barely manage my own money. i do not want to deal with money for customers or the companies. i did check out geek squad again need more experience. cable companies again experience i mean honestly, can i get better advise?! i mean really!!!!!!

well, i will just make this general. in IT, in any company out there, they all want you experienced with certs, i know that like either 2-3 yrs or over 5 yrs, mostly over 5 yrs experience is what i have seen mostly. i do read WSJ they got a lot of good stuff. however, lots of things that i am finding out now, my ex instructors never told us this stuff but said we were gonna get hire and make tons of money. my college didn't really prepare us for the work world.

the bigger name companies out there will expect you to already have the experience and certs b4 they will hire you. again, i need something better for advise its the same usual advise i always get that never applies to me. been there done that but like i said its fine if i don't get into IT, but i just wanted a chance to get into after college.

the college career center was terrible they gave me bad advise just like high school did. i owe the 2nd school i attended money on because of a class i failed twice. college does not help sorry to say but it does not.
