I knew that this was going to happen eventually. He was not supposed to take over another store until August. It had been moved up to April, then to March. Tonight my GM called and said that something happened at the store he was transfering to and tomorrow would be his last day.

This makes me so sad. I will miss him very much.

He did ask the GM if he could borrow me for a few months to assist with the transition and training at the other store. She said no.

I know that must be tough. This person has meant so much to you. But you actually might be able to stand on your own two feet now and actually be able to mentor another worker coming along at some point.

Are there any guidelines about your being able to meet with your mentor from time to time, say, for lunch or just a chat?

Oh, we'll still text back and forth, and technically he'll still be my boss off site. I will still see him at all company functions and combined training days etc. But it won't be the same.
