No work, no life

And I need to vent!

I graduated from university in May of '12. I worked an unpaid internship for the fall semester. But now, it's a month or so out from that, and I have no job, no nothing, you know. I have sent out resumes, but I haven't even gotten any calls for interviews. I feel like my mind is turning to mush, and I'm losing initiative quickly...

Hi, I cant offer any advice but I have felt like that very often. Its hard not to lose initiative. I know people who have been working as (unpaid) interns for years, just because they couldnt find a permanent position elsewhere and they rather do something then stay at home. So, although it doesnt help make you feel better, you are definitely not alone. I dont know what field you are looking into but I wonder if you could do something online. That way you would have something to do to bridge the gap inbetween jobs and you could put it on your CV as well. I would also attend young professionals meetings and sign up on Xing/LinkedIn..Connection is everything. I hope you find something soon. hugs

Alas, with today's economy, your situation is becoming more common. Is there a way you can volunteer (I realize internships are really like volunteering) in some area/place that would tie into your major and/or interests? At least it would get you out of the house while you are still waiting for interviews.....

What did you study? What are your strengths? What would you think is worth doing job wise?

Hopefully things will go better for you than they have for me. I'm in a similar situation. I graduated Dec 2011 and have only gotten 11 weeks worth of work last summer, so I haven't had anything since Aug. After putting out applications for so long things look like they're picking up; I've gotten three calls over the past week.

It's mindnumbing for sure, but just keep with it.
