I want to study to be a massage therapist. I know that with my bipolar disorder in order to go to school I'd have to take meds. I also know that I could continue to just keep working as a secretary and not take any meds and risk the side effects yet have a less prestigeous job. Which should I do? Go to school and take meds or don't go and don't take any meds?

Go to school and take the medications. Work on your black and white thinking and if you don't want to go to school, you should still take meds.

why do you have to take meds to go to school? Do they require you to do so... or do you feel you cannot manage without meds?
If former... is it even legal? As for later... there isn't really a link between meds/being able to do school (many meds have stupid as side effect; medicated peeps tend to sleep longer, sometimes too long..) and no meds/no school (quite a few managed to get degree that way). It depends on your functionality. But if you are a mess, just taking meds will not make you a good student... you will need to do a lot of hard work anyways.

Yes, I don't see the relationship between some of your either/ors. Why is being a massage therapist more "prestigious" than being a secretary; do what you want to do, what works for you in your life and lifestyle.
