So I just wanted to say first off, I think this forum is great. A cool place for people to share and I guess esp for me cos I recently moved to a new country and well most of my relatives I talked to for career advice, they'r eback in aus (I moved to nz).

So, I guess the issue is well I need career advice hahah. See my step dad here, I found it odd just talking to him about stuff. We don't realy "talk". the odd hi and morning. Nothing really tight though. And well, he's not working full time or permanently anywhere. Honestly I don't know what he does. He does part time book keeping, so even job wise, I am in multimedia, freelance photographer, so hard to ask him for advice. So, he's not really ambitious, hard to ask him stuff.

And then dad is not really ambitious himself. He's unemployed and well I do have a job almost full time myself, I work for sky tv nz, it is so weird asking him for advice seeing he's the one that needs a job lol.

Help! hahah

This is my area. I'm not clear on what you actually want to know, though? You do need to be more specific. Are you looking to build more of a freelance career, get a particular kind of job, or what? I can't help without knowing what you actually want to know.

I would advise editing your post to remove details of where you work.

Yes. I would like to build a freelance career in multimedia photography. So at the moment I've been building experience with the local Auckand Council and pretty much just photographing whatever I can.

Have you tried asking if you can assist more experienced photographers on their shoots?

Do you know seek.co.nz? SEEK - Advertising, Arts & Media Jobs in New Zealand maybe they have a job where you could make contacts, etc. My sister-in-law and brother market her photography by having a booth and going to fairs all over the Eastern US and meeting people/making contacts there that lead to other jobs, etc.

Yes, haven't had strong response. I guess they're busy on their own stuff. I did get a positive response from 1 or 2 people, so following up on them. one is shooting for an agency, so fingers crossed, maybe I can tag along with them.

Honestly, it sounds as if you Are doing what you need to do to build a career.
Someone you work with might be a better source of advice/mentor-ship than family. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
