I dont know if the medications are causing this flat unmotivated feeling. The thing is I have no job and really have not had much motivation to look for one. I do own a business absentee but expenses have been huge, I have absolutely ho extra to pay self employment taxes so I will need to find work but my work history has been a disaster since 2009 if not earlier. And since moving to this area Boston MA, I have not made one friend probably because the stigma of unemployment shows.

Well - jobs are not easy to find anymore...I don't work either, and haven't in years, but I do keep looking anyway...Really, I only see a handful of jobs listed in the paper anymore - I can remember when it was pages and pages......

I don't know what meds you're on, but I think some of them can sort of knock people out. Are you seeing a therapist? Some clinics take patients based on what they can pay.

Im from Europe, and belive me, a job is hard to find anywhere in the world. Friens are a tricky thing to make- most people befriend neigbours, colleages, people that go to the same places... A generic advice to find friend would be to go places, gardens, cofeeshops, even support meating...
If you think that you can't make friends because your unemployment shows, then it'll block your motivation to look for friends...
On line chatting could help with the loneliness and you can even make real friends on-line- I meet my wife on-line.

Don't know why I'm bumping this, but I would refuse ANY medication given to me if I ever got depressed. Normally it does not solve any problems and it can make the patient dependent on the medication.

Are you on new meds? I can imagine it would be scary to relocate, esp to a large town like Boston. I understand how it feels to be without a job. It feels for me like my whole life revolves around this fact. But, I find that if I tend to isolate myself it just makes me feel worse. Maybe you could try and join some local groups. Idk if u go to church, but that's always a good place to meet friendly people as well. Hope u feel better soon!

Sorry to hear about your situation - I can relate. Have you thought about volunteering? I realise it can be hard if you lack motivation - as I do too a lot of the time - but sometimes after I've volunteered I feel better and it can be a good way to meet people.
