I am a Med Tech and today for the first time I got stuck with a needle during a procedure. I am sitting on pin's and needles waiting for test results to come back.
I have been kicking myself all day long over what I could have done wrong.... How much of an idiot I am.... What I like to call stinkin thinkin....
Have any of you had that experience and would like to share? I need a reality check basically.
Stat's say this stuff happens a lot but I don't know?
This chick is in need of a reality check guys.

You are waiting for test results from the patient or your own?

If you contract HIV from a needle stick it takes about six weeks for you to test positive.

Yes I have been in your situation when a doctor did not dispose of sharps appropriately after a procedure and I got cut. Sux

My friend did this..we had a full blown aids pt. Thankfully she's ok. This happened about 8yrs ago. I was in the lab with her when it happened..she's my best friend and we suffered together. We both learned a valuable lesson let me tell you.

Actually complete blood work up's were done on both myself and the patient. I have to go back in 6wks, 3months, 6months and 1yr. The first round is ok so far on my end. The charge nurse went back into the room and checked the red bin. The butterfly I used was still on the cover I didn't push it down. I ended up getting a defective butter fly needle. The spring didn't contract right. Regardless I learned a lot that is for sure.
Haier I don't know how you guys hung in there waiting. You stuck by your friend and I give you so much credit for that. Good friends are hard to find.
Thank you guys for replying I didn't think anyone would. You guys have been helpful.
Thanks for this!
