Advice on ad for starting a band or starting a band in general

I've always wanted to start a band, so I wrote up an ad I plan to post on Craigslist and on any other site that may be relevant (if you know what those sites are, please let me know!)

I'm looking for any advice you have on the ad. Is it too long? Is it detailed enough? How would I shorten it enough to create a small poster that I could potentially post around town? Also, should I include my gender and/or age? Or any other advice...

I've wanted to do this for 10 years...so yeah, any advice would be great.

I'm purposely leaving out the information to include in the reply to the ad, as I don't want this to look like I'm placing an ad on here.

Musicians wanted to start a new band!

I’m looking for musicians who are serious and willing to commit a potentially significant amount of time to a band with the goal of eventually making a demo and/or releasing an album.

Specifically, I’m looking for:

A lead guitarist/second lead vocalist* or back-up singer
A bassist/second lead vocalist* or back-up singer
A drumset player/percussionist

* by this I mean I’m looking to have two singers, similar to System of a Down where both sing solo and as a duet with me as the other lead vocalist. I would strongly prefer a guy for the second lead vocalist position.

Style of Music/Further Details:

I’m looking to combine electronic elements with live instruments. I would be in charge of the electronic side of things (for examples of my electronic work, check out: https://soundcloud.com/chesterlily88).
I am a classically trained composer and trumpet player that also plays guitar (rhythm/back-up) and would be one of the main vocalists. I would also operate any live electronic “instruments” using my laptop etc.
As stated before, I’m looking to fill up a standard quartet: 2 guitars/vocalists, bass, and drumset/percussion. If anyone can play more than one instrument (like I play trumpet, for example), that’s a definite plus as more instruments = more variety and keeping the band at 4 players = more money per person.
Everyone will get equal creative input in the writing of lyrics and music and in any other aspect of the band (performance, promotions etc.). In the event of a tie, my vote will act as a tie-breaker. Everyone will be paid equally as well—all earnings will be split by four.
For style of music/genre, consider the following bands: System of a Down, Alice in Chains, Jack of Jill, Aiden, Mindless Self Indulgence (How I Learned to Stop Giving a **** and Love Mindless Self Indulgence album), Angelspit (Krankhaus album), to name a few.

I am a classically trained trumpet player as well. If someone were looking for a trumpet player and I saw an ad for it, I'd first off want to know if there was any definite money involved (like putting together a band for a gig), I'd then want to know who I was working with. I'd want to know how they play and a little bit about them. I would want to know your age and gender because you do need to be able to relate and get along with the other band members.

Personally, your ad seems pretty intense to me. You state that this is exactly how you want things to go and this is how the politics of the group will be working and etc. I would make it much more casual. You're planning on making a band with other people and you'll have to be flexible. After reading that, I'd be worried that you would be a little bit controlling.

Maybe you could answer some other local ads to people just looking for a casual jam session. Maybe you could just start having casual jam sessions or go to local band concerts and talk to people including the band members. If there is a music school near you, post ads for jam sessions there. You can meet people through that and get a sense of people you can work with.

Ok, I'll try to take the specific detail out to make it seem less intense. And I'll add in my gender and age even though I'm sort of afraid that both will drive people away before giving it a chance.

Should I not even mention I play trumpet though since that would be a secondary instrument for me in this sort of group.

When it comes to jam sessions, there's a music store that does jam sessions...but they're all themed with a particular genre. None of them are really anything I'm interested in. The closest is a blues jam session...but when I think about it, I'm not sure if I should bring my guitar too. I know blues scales on guitar, but not all the fancy jazz chords. I never played jazz guitar...it's a completely different thing. And if I chicken out bringing one of my guitars...then they just know me as a trumpet player...I'm just not sure. If I had someone to go with, I think I'd feel more comfortable, but at the moment I don't.

There is a music school near me...I just graduated from it. But I just have a feeling that I need to stay away for a while...I graduated, I don't belong there anymore. Besides, I didn't really meet anyone while I was there.

I'm trying to get a job as a DJ so I can get to know all the local bands (the station is dedicated to local bands), but I just feel like I will continue to be on the outside looking in.

I think something like the above would get enough people at least interested/applying and you could see if you liked them well enough when you met them or wanted to subtly steer them away by being too intense

I think, since you are starting the band, that the starting hierarchy will be clear? I'm sure people will have questions of their own, maybe ones you can't possibly imagine, but those can be hashed out and answered when you are talking to the people one-on-one?

I haven't posted any kind of ad yet...I still feel extremely nervous putting myself and my ideas out there like that. And I don't really have a place for a jam session. I think I have a better idea of what to write for the ad though...make it really simple:

Musicians (who are also comfortable with singing back-up/harmony as well) wanted to start a new four member band with a mix of industrial, grunge, and alternative influences. I would like to combine live instruments with electronics.

I'm specifically looking for:

A lead guitarist
A bassist
A drumset player/percussionist

Can anyone give me some reassurance? Or any advice for what I say when they ask me where we should meet? I don't really have a place where I can make a lot of noise.

So, I finally posted an ad on Craigslist and the only other site I know of that's good for finding potential band members—Bandmix—charges you just to contact other members...so I can't contact anyone without paying $13 a month or $90 for a year...and that just seems ridiculous.
