I don't even like retail work but I need a job so badly and it's the only place that called.
I'm scared of interviews I don't kno what to do. One time I was doing a mock interview and go so overwhelmed I fainted. Not pretty. I got a bit better but the last one I went on a year ago I burst into tears during and after. I just don't know what to say or say it fast enough that they are satisfied. I'd end up stuttering out something that probaly make no sense or say I don't know to everything. All I could think about was finding an escape.Just can't stay calm during interviews,. I am constantly uncomfortable around people of authority like that. Even if I don't get the job..would like to at least leave the store without feeling ashamed and crying. Anyone got any tips to stay calm or at least not cry? So embarrassing. |

well breathing to reduce your anxiety is always good.
interviewers typically want to know about you and what you have to offer the company so it is good to have a bit to say about yourself prepared. like youre a hard worker, detail oriented, motivated, self starter, offer good customer service, good communicator.....stuff like that they are going to want to know that you will work well with consumers if you are going into retail. just repeat what you want to say over and over to yourself so you don't forget it when you get in to the interview. most importantly, relax when you talk to them. good luck ![]() |

Practice might be a good idea. Also, boost your confidence prior, tell yourself aloud the skills you have that will be an asset at the job---stand tall, use body language in a positive way, stand and walk as if you feel able and ready, try it around the house, you will likely find that taking on the posture of confidence, of success, also brings with it a feeling that is positive. And Good Luck! (also, get away from the "I don't like but I am desperate" thoughts---pretend it is the best thing that could have happened, getting this interview. It is OK to pretend, in acting we begin to be...

I've managed a retail chain store, in the past, and have conducted a bunch of interviews.
One thing, that stood out, was people in positions of 'authority.' Try to remember, these are people, just like you and me, who are just going in to work, for a paycheck.(or for love of the field ![]() Most places, are looking for, will the applicant be, reliable, do they have prior experience--to make training a little easier, how is their attendance, prior performance. Most of the struggle for me, in hiring, wasn't so much, whom I had in front of me, but how fast can I get these references checked out, and how fast can I get them in, trained and on the floor. Hang in there, hope it goes well ![]() |
