I am a CNA by training. After receiving my certification last May, I was undecided what work situation I wanted to work in. I was not able to obtain work in a nursing home, so I thought home health would be a good second choice(been doing this about 6 six weeks).
Well, it is not what I expected. I am working seven days a week, and only making about 20 hours of work. I am on call basically from 7 am to 5 pm. Many clients, when I arrive in their homes, say things like.....I already did the housework/had my bath/ don't need you to do anything. I am not allowed to leave unless they ask me too. I think a lot of them just want company & to have someone around just incase.
I have ADHD. When I have little or nothing to do, I feel like I will go nuts! I feel highly stressed. I wanted a job where I could feel a sense of accomplishment. I wanted to know I am making a positive difference in the world.
If I change jobs now, it will brand me as a job hopper. I am thinking that after January 1, I will start looking for an opening at a nursing home. But, changing jobs so soon looks bad.
Has anyone else taken a job, and not long afterward realized it was not what you thought it would be? This job is just not a good fit for me.
Help!!!

Do not worry about being a "job hopper" in this field; keep looking for a job where you will be busy. (I was a CNA years ago before I became an RN, I have never been able to do home care as I find it too slow, I don't feel as if I am working...I need, also, to be busy)-----I can't count the jobs in my career at this point but I have never had a problem getting a job when I decide to move on. In nearly 40yrs, I have only been asked once or twice about my multiple jobs (I change jobs to reset my brain, to regain interest, to "travel" to a new place...I don't know why it works---or worked very well for very long, less well now but that is only because right now I have to take work that pays enough for me to take care of certain things...).

Winter--thanks SO much for your reply! Of course, there is no perfect job. I just need more activity. I can see you understand.

Same here I feel that I am becoming a job hopper.. Worst of all I don't even know what is best for me... Sometimes I just wonder if the job issue or my job expectation issue..
