Although I am not ‘officially’ employed, I have started on-the-job training driving tractor trailers locally for a flour mill, and I am having difficulties with the stress of a new routine I think.

Even though I am in my 20s I’ve never had a full-time job anywhere before, and for the last 4 years I’ve lived off disability support. However, the money I make each month from disability is almost nothing, and I would like to be a more productive member of society and to achieve things in my life.

But whenever I start working somewhere, I find it difficult to cope with the stress of a new routine and the lifestyle change, and I can’t keep leaving jobs after a couple of days because I am too stressed out.

I wouldn’t say I dislike or like where I work. The company treats me well, I make fairly good money, and it is basically the same each day, but I find the change difficult to cope with.

New things , especially jobs are always hard to adjust to at first. Hang in there!

Just a thought....is there any way you could start part-time and work your way to full-time? Maybe only 2-3 days a week? You could give a legitimate excuse without giving away your MH issues....that it takes a while for you to get used to the routine. Just a thought. If you start a little more gradually instead of full-time right off the bat, maybe it would be easier. Or you could look for something that is part-time with the possibility of going full-time in the future.

New jobs are very hard. You have to be patient with yourself. I know it is easier said. I take lots of notes at new jobs. Sometimes super detailed notes because when I get nervous I have a hard time retaining info. Another way to look at change is as a new experience ..something you are gaining...not something to be afraid of.

Changes to the routines we are used to, is indeed stressful. Remember, the pay is the benefit to why your routine is changing. You incorporate it. It is a demand, on your time, which I can appreciate, as being stressful. Sometimes, it leaves me, feeling as though there aren't enough hours in the day, to do much of anything. Seeing the paycheck, helps remind me.
