Just looking for some words of encouragement... I just got hired for an internship. I've never done this type of work before, but they made it perfectly clear they knew that and are willing to help/train me. Thing is, this is my first "real" job. Before this, I've only done retail. I'm a little nervous about the transition to sitting at a computer for 6+ hours doing something I've never done before... Right now, I'm pretty stable, but there's always that fear in the back of my mind that my depression and anxiety are going to come back full force...

First off, congratulations! Awesome job scoring the internship!

Second... These things take time adjusting to, not going to lie. I felt the same way transitioning from retail (grocery store) to working as a temp. Office Clerk at the college I attend. In the end, I loved it so much that I didn't want to leave, and I'm hoping that I'm hired again next summer.

Just remain calm, take a few breaths, and think positively! Think about how many people who would probably love to have that internship.
Thanks for this!

Yes, don't let the anxiety get to you; it use to take me 6 months to get use to new jobs (I once spent 10 years just getting and ending short-term, part-time jobs so I could "practice" starting and ending jobs, that aspect made me so anxious). It sounds like a great job though, getting paid and on-the-job training. I worked for an engineering firm that was good for that, training young engineers well and then they would leave for better jobs.

I made it through my first two days! I was definitely anxious before going in, but everyone is so friendly and encouraging, that I"m already starting to feel better about it. It's a little hard, because I'm doing something I've never done before and no one there has really done it either, so it's a little like the blind leading the blind (so it'll be more helping than training). But I bought a couple books and there's always Google! I think I'm managing my anxiety okay right now, so I"m feeling pretty optimistic.

Thanks for all the support!!
