I despise working where I'm at knowing it will never get me anywhere and I'm being held back.

I work two part time jobs. I don't have awful jobs and some people are even impressed. I'm not though...

After 08 when I had my daughter I get layed off a job I had worked at for over 9 years. So, I found a temporary fix and worked somewhere making pennies basically. But, then I got offered an opportunity I thought could lead me back to a career.

Unfortunately, my one job has been very stressful. My boss is one of those who thinks she is above everyone else. Don't get me wrong, she's excellent at her job but ruthless and will chew and spit you out. This was suppose to be my foot in the door or so she said. She basically bar rated me though when I mentioned growth. So, I went to the manager. I couldn't even talk to him in our office. I had to talk to him on his cell! He talked to a corporate manager and basically told me this...

I shouldn't mention wanting to be full time or post for another full time job unless it was another office because she will start making my performance reviews bad. She is unfortunately the way she is and wants people to align with what makes her succeed.

So basically...I'm doomed to going no where here. It's not just that but she's moody and most of the time unpleasant to be around!!

Sorry so long...but depressing when it's 3 years down the drain.

Can the manager you talked with give you a recommendation when you start applying for other jobs? Maybe he knows of a competitor who would be interested in hiring you?

you've been there for 3 years, and they still won't hire you full-time? I'm just wondering why. I only work part-time, too, because that's all that's needed in my department. And, if I stay at my current job, it'll probably be a while before I can get full-time, would have to get a promotion.

I think people want to save money by hiring more part time vs full. No insurance etc. Been seeing a lot more of that where I'm from.

I understand how hard it is to find a job that you like with co-workers that get along.
After many experiences with my career I found what I like and what gives me a lot of purpose...but I just have me to take care of and right now the pay is terrible. Know that you need to start figuring out a way to get out - unless your boss gets fired. We spend too much of our lives at work to be emotionally abused. Any opportunity to network with friends, families, outside activites and so on...you never know who might be interested in employing you. For me, when I've made a decision that it's time to go...I always started to feel better. Even if you enjoy your job duties, coping with a jerk will have a terrible effect on your other emotional life. Good luck I can empathize from past experiences.

So sorry you have to deal with an abusive supervisor. I know how this feels. I think some people get in positions of authority and abuse that authority. I am going thru much the same stuff on my job. Hope things improve.
