I have not worked in over a decade, just graduated, and have begun to job hunt. I actually got a call to set up my first interview for a job that would be really great; it is phone interview though. Is there anything in particular I should know about this that might be different as compared to in-person one? Advantages/disadvantages?

Meanwhile the question I am dreading is about the extensive gap in my work history but I have a good answer prepared for that. It is all the other questions, acchhh, so nervous.

Please wish me luck as this job would be really beneficial so I can stay close to home making Dad's care easier to manage.

Good luck, fresia! I know you will do well. I haven't had a phone interview, but I suggest you make your voice sound positive, confident, and upbeat, though. The bright side: You can interview in your pajamas if you want!

Good luck, Fresia! There are positives about phone interviews, for example you don't see the interviewers making notes whilst you are talking, which is something that makes some people nervous. Plus, you are not being watched for your body language.
I hope it all goes well and you'll get the job!

Thank you so much for the tips and well wishes! It seemed to go really well in that I made it passed the first round; he said I will be called to set up in- person interviews within the next week or two. The downside is is that it will be with 5 more people. Ack! Oh my gosh. I just have to tell myself I can do this though and not let the anxiety get to me. 5 more people, makes this look like nothing, eh?! I am not sure if would rather they be all at once or not.

Dear Fresia: congratulations on acing your phone interview! It bodes well that you were selected for the next round of the process.

Rehearsing answers to a few typical questions, and coming up with a couple questions to ask the interviewers before the appointment has helped me. I tend to freeze up -I can feel my mind reaching around for something to say, and the practice helped me come up with something coherent. [know this is fairly obvious/typical advice, but it really worked excellently for me].

I've taken to arriving at my interviews 30-40 mins earlier. I stop by a shop for a cup of coffee/tea, relax my breathing, read a little before I head on over to the interview. I helps me feel less anxious.
