I'm 22 and graduated college last year with my Bachelors. The job market was not at all what we were promised through our college education. I got a job at the university part-time last summer and I'm still there. I picked up an additional job there, because they do like my work but I am still part time with both (state laws). I just started an internship because I am going for my Masters. And its unpaid, but I have had no luck finding anything. Its the not enough experience trap. So I am trying to work on that. I am doing better but this whole winter I felt like I was doing horribly. Pretty much depression, my big anxiety is always general but its specifically perfectionist and future oriented too. I felt like I needed to be higher up in my career at this point... but I do have a lot going on and I enjoy the flexibility of my current jobs. So its the pros and cons. Anyone understand this?

Hello, pngindreamr. Sometimes, all one can do is play the hand they are dealt as best they can.

I DO understand. I tend to be a perfectionist too, wanting everything to work out RIGHT NOW. But it sounds to me like you are doing everything you can to keep moving forward. Internships can often turn into paid employment, which would be great.
I find it helpful to try and focus on the good in my life, even the little things. I just start listing them off in my head: The sun is shining today. This strawberry I'm eating is absolutely delicious. I did a good job today. I have friends and people who care about me....you get the idea. Hang in there! Keep doing your best and building a network of people who know you do a good job! |
