So the title pretty much says it all.

I'm off work for the next 4 weeks due to a depressive episode. A week ago, I applied for a position as a teller at a local credit union just to see what would happen. I forgot about it completely, but they called saying that they were interested and wanted to set up an interview. Most of my stress lately has been due to my current job, so I am very excited about the prospect of a new position. But I really need this time off and I can't start a new job while I am on short term disability.

My insurance is also through my work and I just started meds, so if I change jobs obviously my insurance will end. My question is, should I go to the interview? And if I go should I disclose that I am on short term disability? Any advice would be welcome.

Im from England so I dont know how it works with insurances and stuff but if you current job is making you ill I would go to the interview even if it just gets you out the house for a bit its gotta be good.

I wouldn't mention your illness. At the end of the day if this new job would make you feel better so I think it would be worth having to pay for your meds and insurance for a while

Good luck with the job
Thanks for this!

Hey rob, thanks for the advice. I don't know anything about insurances either lol. But yeah you're right, it will get me out of the house at the very least. I think any job would be better. Thanks for the insight, I think I'll call them back tomorrow.

I would at least go to the interview and then cross the other bridge when you come to it. Let us know how it goes!

Definitely go to the interview, and just let them know that you can't start right away. You don't have to give them a reason, just say something vague about your current job that's giving your disability. If it's the job causing your depression it's worth trying to change your circumstances, I'd say.

On Friday I'm going in to undergo a test for typing, use of Microsoft Word and Excel. I'm pretty nervous, but I think I'll be okay. Thank you all for your support!

It never hurts to go on an interview if just for practice. I wouldn't bring up being on short term disability. Perhaps phrase it that you're taking a short period of time to take care of a personal issue that will be resolved before the new job starts. Good luck with your decision.
