When I read your first sentence, I thought you were going to ask how to handle toxic people at work. Instead, you want to focus on making yourself nearly perfect to please this person??

Maybe a better goal is to learn to be productive and reasonably content with the quality of your work (not perfect, just good), accept that some errors will occur, connect with the 'healthy' people there, and not give power to those who do not support the good work you do. Your work situation will improve dramatically if you take your focus off the malcontents.

Checklists can really help. Take the five minutes before you start to make a list. Keep the list close by so you can jot down things you remember in the middle of doing something else.

I agree with everything Little Lulu said as well.

Who is this person? Are they your supervisor? A coworker? It would help me answer your question.
