I took a job at the end of this summer after graduating in May in a new field, and after not working in over a decade due to MH issues and caring for family; it has been a really rough adjustment and I am still training (it is expected 6-8 months). However, the position I took was a traveling position, local, but traveling to get my foot in the door; I was not excited about this with my MH symptoms to keep them level and stress, especially when I learned I would be working alone at times (being new in this field, did not seem wise but did not learn about this until after I took the job , adding to my concern) but as I said, I needed to get my foot in the door, especially having experience but none in this field other than schooling. So I have been stressed about it, whether I made the right decision and as to whether I could actually do it.

They offered me on Friday, still a full time job, but at 1 location, better regular hours, close to home, on shift with more experienced people, that will work much better once I am trained with my MH stuff, and no traveling around in the winter. It will be a change effective immediately that will start once the training period is over. The hours will also help me better with arrangements in taking care of my folks. I am SO very relieved and shocked that I cannot even tell that it ACTUALLY worked to get my foot in the door, a better position actually did come along.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the person who gave me the advice that most companies are hiring from within; that though a position you want may not be readily available, if you want to work for a specific company or field, to find another position instead, then when the other position you want opens up, will have a better chance being already in the company. It worked.

Please celebrate with me, this a huge load of relief and stress off my shoulders. Thanks again for all your support throughout this process of going back to work.

That's really inspiring. You said you didn't work for ten years? I'm 22 and self employed and I have no work history other than volunteering positions, so that is very comforting to know that other people out there who haven't been in the workforce can land a job like that. Very inspiring! I'm also going back to college to better my hiring chances. Good luck on your new endeavor!
