Just got a phone call about a position I applied for. The HR woman tells me a short bio of the company then jumps right into asking how much compensation I expect....before asking anything about me or my resume. I was caught off guard, but named a conservative range. She kind of sighed "You don't really have a background in this, so that's too much...we'll keep your resume on file."

I kind of panicked b/c I didn't really expect to give any certain number. So I decided to call her back and explain that and she was almost challenging me, "Well how much would you want?" AGAIN, I'm cornered before any type of real interview. I replied with what I thought was a safe way of putting it off: "I'd entertain any fair offer..." Of course, she hits me right back with her challenging tone: "Well, what's a fair offer?" So I named an even lower range and this time she seemed satisfied.

That was THE most aggravating NON-INTERVIEW I've ever had!

wow, that really sucks...it doesn't seem like they are looking for someone that fits the position rather than somebody who is willing to work for a minimal price range. is this a company you really want to work for? when we interview we never talk about the money, ever. it nevr comes up. good luck with the job if you get it........take care
