I have been at my job for almost 9 months and so happy! I have applied to two different positions at two different colleges and the first location still waiting for them to call the candidates. 2nd location just applied and hasn't closed yet not until next week. I am still learning as much as I can at my present job and started writing technical articles for the tech center.

I am trying to prepare myself for a full time transition coming soon as I feel that I will get the job at the 1st location (hopefully the job isn't a few months and that is it otherwise I will not accept it) where I can make more money. However, I am still looking for a 2nd job the problem is these employers don't wanna be flexible with my work schedule that I already have it's like they want me to leave my job to work for them. They didn't have anything to offer me I heard mostly contract either no renewal or may be a renewal (they don't have to keep you at all either). I told them I want stable and permeability as I am already on a contract at my job. The usual we will keep your name on file if we find something, we will contact you. In my dept, we are short staffed too I close at night M-Th - someone has to do it there isn't anybody else.

My coworker told me to talk to other depts on campus seeing if they need part time help as I can have two jobs on campus and don't have to travel a lot and gain more experience. That is true, but I can't go over 25 hrs if I had two jobs on campus my hours would be 12 in my dept and 12 in another. Then, I'd be on another contract in another dept. These temp jobs don't last and I want something that's gonna last! My boyfriend said if you have another job in another dept look how great that's gonna look to other employers that you are increasing your skills even more which I do agree.

Having two temp jobs is not gonna help me get to my main personal goal that I am still working on. The budget money is the problem which is why a lot of the depts are short staff and very hard to get board approved. My one year is Feb 2015, so I am thinking if I still can't get anywhere within the college district, that I will have to start moving on finding a full time job elsewhere and there is a college I would like to work for (well, a university).

I am still hoping to get another job similar to what I am doing if that works because the calls I've been getting they want 2 yrs of experience. I don't know just more things to thing about, I don't know what else I could do as most jobs out there I don't qualify for. I am still wanting to do short term job training and go to this tech center in another city to learn different things and still get certifications yep a lot of things I still wanna do lol. I would hate to leave the school I work for and graduated from 4 yrs ago, but I may have to do that later on. Just some venting and seeing what options do I have left.....

Many people are finding getting full time work in their field and at their ability level is very difficult for the past 5-6 years. If you are supporting your life style without racking up debt, then you at least are in a situation where you have 2 jobs even if part time.
Other options are
Networking within university to discover other situations while keeping your part time jobs.
Doing temp or self-employed work to fill out your income while keeping your part time jobs.
Seeking full time or part time work outside the university while keeping your part time jobs.

Patience may be better than an impulsive decision to leave the university and have no income and possibly no jobs like you are looking for. This is a structural unemployment situation. This isn't just you can't find a job. The whole job market has changed.

Patience is my opinion. Better with something that could sprout into a full time job. Networking with people in your field or even doing volunteer work or whatever they call it, an apprenticeship could be a road into your field.

Thanks for sharing!

Hello. I work at a comnunity college and let's be clear on volunteering: I am still partially volunteering at a library, but nothing isn't happening for a job. I do have debt student loans! I haven't finished my BS which is not something i need to do at the moment. I network at work, again i gotta apply online thru district for full time. However, if another sister college wants me to start asap my boss told me just go take the knowledge. I love volunteering we found out my dear elderly friend died and haven't been back to volunteer. I would like to help animals, can't do it now. I gotta finish speaking to other depts on Monday and then we shall see. All part timers at work are leaving cuz it's too hard to get full time; remember budget money and 5 temps left got full time elsewhere. When i get a 2nd job, they won't be seeing me much at library. Like i always say, love volunteering but self care and charity starts with me and very worn out. Seriously, how much waiting do i need to keep enduring? Why do ppl keep suggesting self employed? Again, need backed up previous work experiences to do that too much time and money that's time i don't have sorry being honest my job now is temp again why do i need another temp job!?! Neirher are guaranteed! AZ is a right to work state u can still get fired meaning temps can still be terminated. I'm still contemplating a full time and my current part time job 8 hrs plus 22 hrs wtf! These jobs want 8-5 m-f my hours are on friday at noon. Oh ao over this **** ugh nothing simple not leaving my job for another temp job!! I know about the whole market it's ppl out there who still in the past. Hmm, i will continue to apply outside the community college district. Those temps who left are shining and it's time for me to shine.

You have some options available to you, which can be a good thing!

You should do a plus and minus of each option that you have, which you've already begun to do.

At the end of the day the decision will depend on what's best for you at this time and in the future.

Good luck with everything.

My main goal has nothing to do with my current job, it's a personal goal that I am still working on. So, we will see....not sure how flexibility can be arranged for a 2nd job when they need someone friday morning which i am not available since i work at noon and sometimes my schedule changes so my full time coworker can leave early if she needs to.

If both people you work for are flexible maybe you can negotiate something that is good for everyone.
