I went to the ER last night after having to leave work early. My back started throbbing uncontrollably and I had a panic attack. I waited 3 hours to be seen in agonizing pain. They sent me for a CT scan of my HEAD. They said my head was fine, gave me prescription painkillers and sent me on my way. (By that point I had been at the ER for 8 hours).

My back is still in so much pain. When I'm sitting it's ok but if I stand longer than 20 mins it starts to get intolerable. I work in a restaurant and I pretty much stand for 6 hours a day. I don't know what I'm going to do. My husband and I make so little money as it is I'm really worried that if this problem isn't sorted out that I'm going to need to change jobs.

My depression is so bad right now I've been so stressed about a bunch of other things and this just adds to an already miserable week. And I know that as soon as I get back to work there are gonna be rumors flying all around about what was wrong with me since I had to leave work due to the pain.

Hello fruitbat22,

I would go and see your normal doctor regarding your back pain. Sounds like ER treated your head instead of your back?? You might need different pain killers or physio or something else. Don't worry what people say, you had to leave work to take care of you, simple as that.

Health issues that prevent us from working are just part of life but a lot of us beat ourselves us when we can't go to work so you are not alone. Take care of yourself and I hope you find some solutions to your back issue as well as your stress so that you are feeling better soon - physically and mentally.
Thanks for this!

Thank you. I did go to my regular dr she didn't really listen to me. My therapist says I need to go look for a new dr. He says that sometimes when drs know you have a mental illness they shut you out and don't take you seriously. Sucks but I need to know what's wrong with me.

I'm lucky that my care team is linked so that my Doctor, Psychiatrist and Therapist all communicate with each other and work together with me. I would not like it if my doctor discriminated against me because of my mental illness.
