I'm working 25 hours on average and my daughters each give me 1/3 of rent. I'm still struggling. Nothing gets paid on time. I just fall further and further in the trap. There are no wonderful, uplifting stories to read or believe in. Once you are in the trap of poverty, you stay there. I'm not looking for sympathy. I've looked and looked, combed ads, talked to people, and prayed until I'm blue in the face. I wasn't much of a big believer but now that is looking pretty hopeless too. When the car dies, it is over. At least I'll have no car payment or insurance...just another ding on my already crappy credit rating-if they even rate in the negative...half laughing but mostly crying on that last statement!

Do they have the equivalent of Citizens Advice in the U.S.? In the UK, it's a free organisation that gives help and support to people in your situation.

Why do you only work 25 hours? Is there not more work? I dont know many people that can live off so few working hours, the norm is 40 hours here.

Truth be told, 40 hours here in my little town in NE OH is a joke. I have no degree and though I enjoy my job, it is strictly part-time for the duration I am there. To go back and say, "I should have finished college..." or other statements like that are useless.
I'm going to try another approach, although at this moment I have no clue what it is... |

My parents don't have degrees, they both worked for universities, my mom was an office manager and my dad was a maintenance electrician. You can find office jobs fairly easily without a college degree. You must have experience, that counts more than a degree sometimes. Drive around your town and drop off your resume and fill out applications for every office you see. Even apply at libraries, hospitals, medical offices, businesses, schools, museums, anywhere like that. Don't apply for anything less than 40 hours. Go to the next town over if you have to. Look at online job websites.
