Today was the second time where I left work because I wasn't feeling good. Today, my stomach was aching so bad, but it was payday so I went back into work to pick up my paycheck a few hours later. The manager looked P.O.'d and said "I thought you weren't going to come in because you were SO sick this morning." Now I'm scared she might fire me. I've only been working two weeks and missed two days already because I felt sick in the morning. I told her already that I tend to feel sick in the morning which is why I changed my availability so that I won't be up so early. My grandparents said not to say anything or apologize to the manager unless she brings it up. I've been worrying about it all day that she might fire me or not believe me when I feel sick.
What should I do? |

Talk to your doctor about this problem. See if there is any way to combat this tendecy to feel ill in the morning. In the meantime, try to go to work even if you feel sick in the morning. The sick feeling might wear off as the day goes on.

I agree with Rose, talk to your doctor.
Also, I understand that it's definitely uncomfortable to have someone doubt you when you're legitimately feeling sick. Managers can have low tolerance for sick days (although they shouldn't). The days that you are feeling healthy and able, just put in a strong effort. If you have a good manager, they should notice your hard work and desire to be present when you're present. |

I saw my manager again. She was all smiles and cheery and asked how I was doing and she was very impressed with how I asked her what I could do to help and gave me a double high five when I successfully made an Oreo McFlurry for the first time and without being asked. I made an effort to keep myself busy and she was glad about that. She never asked about me being sick, which to me was great because I even had a nightmare the other night that she fired me.
I changed my availability so that hopefully this never happens again. For whatever reason, no medical reason behind it because I've already seen the doctor about this, sometimes for no reason I feel really ill if I'm up early in the morning. So now I am available at 9am which should clear up this issue. |

Good for you, Lark. This could be a combination of an anxiety problem and you not being a morning person. I can relate to that. Some people really do just feel absolutely lousy for the first few hours of the day. I'm inclined to be that way, and no doctor could explain it to me. But it can be overcome. If you get into a routine of getting up at a set time and kick off the day with a shower followed by something to eat, it does get easier.
The dream shows that you really do have anxiety about this job, but also that you'ld like to keep it. I always say to give a job six months. At the end of that time period, you'll be amazed at how much anxiety will leave you and you get into a comfort zone of feeling capable and confident. It changes your whole world. Keep that positive attitude about wanting to be busy and useful. Believe me - it gets noticed, as you are already finding out. Nobody wants to fire a cheerful, willing worker. Succeeding at this can be the foundation for a lot of things going right in your life. |

When I had my first job out of college after my degree, I had to drive the Sepulveda pass to get from the San Fernando Valley into Westwood where I was working. I was already married & I had our 10 month old daughter. My mother thought she was going to be really smart & give me these wonderful vitamins to give me the energy I needed. I started to take them & every morning before noon, & would end up feeling really sick to my stomach & I knew it wasn't morning sickness. Only thing I could think of was the vitamins. Sure enough, I stopped taking them & the sick feeling in the morning went away.
Maybe there is something you are taking or eating when you get up early to get to work early that is something you wouldn't be doing on other days?......we never think about the things we take could actually be causing us to feel sick.....for me, I had no idea how healthy vitamins could possibly make me sick. Never would have thought that vitamins would do something like that....they are supposed to be healthy for you had to think back to what had changed at the time I started feeling sick. Hope it's nothing serious. Sounds like you are doing well on your job....it's good to want to do any job well. __________________ Leo's favorite place was in the passenger seat of my truck.
