I have an interview at Fry's/Kroger Monday and I would appreciate it if you guys could help me prepare for the interview so I can do everything right, answer the questions just right so I can get the job. I really want to land this job. I will not accept anything but to get this job. I need help though if that's going to happen. Can anyone help me get this job? I absolutely need the best thing to say about the gap of my first job ending and now. I did not put my 3 other jobs that I got fired from because I knew my application wouldn't even be considered with that on it. I have no idea what to say about that gap of 8 years that I supposedly didn't have a job (that they know of). My first job ended September 15th, 2007 on good terms. The 3 other jobs after that I was fired by all 3 of them. What would be a good thing to do that you think will get me the job?

thats a tough one. many employers dont call past jobs, they just care that you have a job history. an eight year gap is a big thing unless you have kids you were taking care of or you were going to school. you dont have to put you were fired. you obviously had longevity at each job if you held them for 8 years and that is what employers are looking for. you just put "let go" or "laid off". if they catch you in a lie about your application, that is grounds for termination.

so if you havent been in school or taking care of children, you can say that you have been taking care of ill family members i guess for all this time or traveling the world.

otherwise just be really confident. use strong word about having good customer service skills. focus on communication, friendliness, courteous, kind, patient. hard worker, dependable. reliable. know as much about raleys as possible. ask questions such as what do they expect from you as an employee. dont ask about money or time off.

You have two choices.
1. Tell the truth
2. Lie

When you were let go from the jobs was it beyond your control? Was it related to depression or another condition? Did you get in trouble? You should tell the truth but it would be good to be prepared to explain your side of it. Good luck to you!

Most companies will just confirm that you worked there---they don't tend to say anything negative for fear of being sued. I'd include your whole work history. In retail it is common to switch jobs--don't worry about that. Just speak positively about yourself and past employers-good luck!!

I recommend being as pleasant as possible and not getting defensive when or if they ask difficult questions.

If you are being hired to the work with the public, you will have to appear to be authentically kind and interested even if you want to stomp off in anger because they're being annoying.

Also, when someone helps you, say by answering a question or by being helpful, in any way, you come back to them and thank them for their time and interest.

Basically, high levels of good interpersonal skills behaviors.

Angelwngs25 has a small tendency to not respond to questions in her own threads.

I don't understand it, she's been on PC recently. I guess that what I meant by "good interpersonal skills" behavior.

You ask a question.
People answer question
People ask how it goes
