This morning, my boss picked up a personal check of mine, which I left in the building by mistake. With a big grin, and in front of plenty of colleagues, she announced..."Look! I found three of these (untrue) and purchased a car with them. Hahahahah!"

Everyone looked puzzled and I was terribly embarrassed.

Nobody knew what she was talking about...but I felt very stupid. I told her that knowing I had left them on the floor was very concerning to me...It could have been a financial nightmare.

The whole incident creeped me out. Had MY assistant left a blank check and I had found it, I would have taken her aside, and said, "you may or may not know you've dropped this, but I recovered it. Are there any more that you know have gone missing?"

I'm probably reading too much into this (am I?) but it seems like a power play on my boss's part. I'm embarrassed and I am scheduled to meet with her in 10 minutes for our (painful) weekly check in.

HELP!!!!

Hope your meeting with your boss went better than the public outcry she made about finding the check.

Guess they thought it was careless to drop checks on floor. Don't agree with how they dealt with it. How could this be prevented might be a question to ask.

I hope your boss is just really bad at jokes and not doing some weird power thing.

Your boss was so out of line. She could have taken you aside and told you and given them back to you. She did not have to tell everyone that is not right shame on her or him

Sorry you had to go through that

Thank you, everyone!!! Later in the day, she accused me of pouring water on the floor of her office. Which I did not do.
I think I work for a crazy person.
