So, I'm going to start some new medication this week and I will have no idea how it will affect me. I need a way to tell my boss about it because I work with machinery, including things like saws. However, I don't know how to word my email. Does anyone have a format I can use, or any tips?

Well, what is worst that can happen? Sleepiness, take over night. Employer short term disability?
Thanks for this!

If you're worried the medication will make you drowsy or cause hand tremors, maybe you can just state you're starting new meds which may cause these. No need to tell him what kind of meds.
Thanks for this!

Can your doctor write a note you can give him? They usually know how to word that stuff.
Thanks for this!

Having a note from your doctor may be a good idea. I also find that when I am unsure how a med will work I take it before I go to bed. Then I can sleep it off. Either way good luck.

I might just tell him the day of work. Or tonight.

Thanks for the answers everyone.

Don't tell them, they will think you are weird.

I haven't told him, but I do take one of my meds on certain days while working because I want to keep a schedule. There's really no privacy but they haven't said anything yet.

They're kind of weird themselves.

Also, don't think they can fire me because this is a work study, and they'll just put me somewhere else, like the painting studio or props if I am unable to use the saws.

Since it is a work study don't worry. Regular job absolutely not. They will find ways to get you fired because you would be a risk they don't want.
