I lost my job of twenty years in November 2014 and am still unemployed. I had to pull out my retirement to make it for awhile, luckily I had enough to pay off what little I owned on the POS modular home I live in. The funds totally ran out a couple of months ago. Last month I got a small loan from my brother to make my car payment and such... but this month I have no where to turn and am terrified of losing my car because its 15 miles to the nearest business are or stores and without transportation, how will I be able to get to an interview or a job if ever offered one?

I don't have a degree but have 25 years of experience. I'm 52 and wonder if that's the reason I've not been offered a position? I've submitted hundreds of applications and resumes, had a handful of interviews, but no offer....I just don't understand...

so your getting interviews, so your application form is okay

but at interview stage you aren't getting the offer?

I wonder if it would be good to see if you could brush up on your interview - and how you answer the questions?

interviews are the hardest thing, I hate them

I'm 63 and ran into that problem last year. I finally filed for disability and got it. My husband and I just barely get by so I understand the hardships. I would just say don't give up because you never can tell, the next one might be the one. Good luck to you.

I have gone through every website regarding the best way to answer interview questions, even bought an app for my ipad, and had a free consultation with an employment counselor who said "just be yourself and answer honestly and you will do fine" ....but evidently none of this has worked. To be honest, I think it has something do to with what one my previous employers may be saying since I was terminated from one of them...its the only thing I can think of that might be hindering being hired.

Thank you for your response. I have also filed for disability at the suggestion of the counselor I'm seeing. Most days I don't think I would be able to hold a job if I did get one, but I just can't do nothing... because that makes the depression and especially anxiety worse.

I totally understand. I got to where I couldn't cope with the stress of working or much of anything else either. Good luck with your application.

Call your finance company and ask them to defer a payment. I think you can do that once or twice per year.
Thanks for this!

Have you thought about self-employment at all? Caregiving, nanny etc? It might work for the short term. Big hug and hang in there!

Good luck with your application. Check for kcal food banks to help with food. Thinking of you.
