My average at high school was 89.7 % so I m a decent student. Then I decided that I would go into the civil engineering department. The problem before starting was I wasn t sure if this program was for me. But because of my parents encouragement I went ahead.
A month into it and I already have several problems. Firstly my sleeping habits and eating habits went downhill. After consuming too much caffeine energy drinks, I now have a high blood pressure problem. And I started failing my courses. My parents paid $4000 for first semester. Just the thought of telling them is terrifying. How do I tell them? I really need help. I ve gotten to the point where I am nearing suicidal thoughts. |

Have you talked to anyone at the school, like your professors, a counselor, or whatever department handles student life/academic assistance? You may be able to turn this around - you still have time to fix this before the semester is over. The college wants you to succeed and should help you without judging.

Do talk to someone (preferably a counselor) at the school, if they are good, they can not only help you figure out how to re-group, whether to change course, but also how to talk with your parents about this. IT is overwhelming but, I guarantee you it is Temporary!!!!

Try talking to a counselor at school, that will help your mental state, but then also go see your advisor to discuss what some of your options are for classes and majors. Talk to them about what YOU like to do not what your parents want.
It is completely normal to get into your first year or two and change majors. It's ok! |
