I had a talk with the campus counselor yesterday (a student only taking a very basic class not working on other degrees and also a pt employee temp) about what happen with the job that let me go. I told her my struggles with concentrating and focusing how they felt I didn't "measure up to their standards." I told her academically as well as professionally, I have always been the slowest person in learning besides at that job those were new systems plus learning how to understand insurance terminology too. Now, I need to figure out how to craft that answer (my weakness) for any future interviews and how to explain how am I improving my ability not sure how but I learn as much as I can as the days go by. I plan on seeing her in maybe another two weeks. I know there are areas I am still weak in and still trying to improve just doesn't feel like the weak areas are going fast enough. One of them is I am still constantly improving yet it still feels stagnant!

She asked me if I enjoy working in a college environment? I told her absolutely and I am finding out how I enjoy working with business partners/clients - internal customers. Now, I am wondering what areas would be ideal for me to look at on working with clients/BPs? I am not sure if I want to write policies, contracts, or any of that. I know how to maintain confidential information; I seem to be going in the direction of wanting to building relationships. I don't want anything in a sales position as I don't do commission only hourly pay! I'm not looking into an area of dealing with money or large amounts of it; just looking for ideas to where I can go into this career path? What type(s) of companies/industries should I target? Like I have said before, only looking for jobs that don't require a lot of schooling/any schooling but pays good/decent and a company I'd enjoy working for. My pt job is not going anywhere nothing but budget issues just a dead end job, but nothing wrong with the place that I work at I just need more responsibilities.

Told counselor that I am keeping IT on the back burner, but I am gonna go after a job that is going to come first depending on what its offering to me even if it isn't IT. So, I am needing to pick up the pace much faster but need to make sure I don't end up losing another job. I don't like micromanagement environments, but I know I could end up in another micromanagement place elsewhere may not always be laid back like my current environment. Any suggestions? Maybe some users on here might be in a job where they work with clients daily and can give me some insight as to how they like or don't like the job. Any tips/suggestions on improving speed and learning? How can I learn now to maintain relationships at my current job so that way I can be ahead of the game? I have made relationships with coworkers and some of the students in the tech center.

Hello ladytiger: I don't know that I would really have any useful suggestions here. I've been out of the work force for too long. To me, it seems like everything nowadays is rush, rush, rush. And if you can't juggle at least two jobs at once, then pretty-soon you're out the door. Hopefully this is not the case everywhere. But it is the impression I have.

I saw your Thread & noticed that you had received no replies. So I just wanted to post a reply letting you know I read your post & wishing you all the best in your quest for new employment.

I agree lots of rushing these days and someone said I should take on another job while I am still employed. No, already did that at the beginning of this year even though it was a short term 2nd job. I had a call from a recruiter who wasted my time (spoken to her before) on a part time weekend job she got huffy with me at the end of the conversation not sure who put in my file that I was seeking other part time jobs never said that.

I had a ****** attitude on the phone, I am sorry, but I am tired of hearing we got a job buuuuut.......it's only part time. If you have spoken to me more than once, where did you come up with the idea that I want another part time job? Told her I am not going from part time job to another part time. I hope she doesn't call me anymore I didn't appreciate her huffy *** attitude hopefully someone in her organization will call me. If it's not full time, don't waste your money or bandwidth by calling or emailing me. I should just let that information be deleted out of my voicemail and emails no more part time.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
