Hi everyone, I just started working at a major beauty retailer, but they're only offering me 10 hours a week for now! I'll only get more hours if I can make their almost impossible sales quota for these loyalty cards, ugh!
They'll probably let me go after the season is over anyways. Anyways, I just got a call from a major market chain near where I live. I asked the manager if it'd be for a f/t or p/t position and he said p/t, but I'd get a minimum of 28 hours a week or more depending on the needs of the holiday season. I'm going to interview with them this Tuesday. Would it look bad it I tell them that I'm working at this other place and that I can't work on Fridays when shipment comes in from 4:30a.m-12:30p.m, or should I just not say anything since this other place will probably let me go soon anyways after the season is over with? The hours at my first job are unpredictable. I'd like to keep it because of the great discounts mostly. So what should I say to the interviewer to make him think that I'm not disloyal or won't be available to work when they need me? My dad just told me to be honest and tell them that if they hire me, then that other job can then work around the schedule they give me as I'm only getting 10 hours a week there and that they'll probably let me go at the end of the season anyways. What should I say and not say? Help! |

I think being honest with them is a good approach. I would make sure they know that their job would be most important to you and that the other is likely temporary. That way they won't worry about the other job will get in the way.

I agree with what Yzen said. Tell them you will keep the other job but that their job comes first.
Lots of people have multiple jobs, as long as the employer knows what the constraints are and you agree upon those upon hiring, you should be okay. Good luck! Seesaw

Thanks so much for the great advice Yzen! I'll do just that! I'll let them know for sure that if I'm hired there, that the other place will then have to work around my schedule as it's only a seasonal job and that I'm getting only 10 hours a week there! I hope that I get the job tomorrow! I'm kind of sick now and I hope that won't show tomorrow, ugh!!!! |
