So my mom has been bullied and harassed at her work so many times we have lost count. She has gotten people fired because unlike them she actually collects evidence to back up her story while they lie through their teeth. She is always targeted because she catches other people's mistakes and corrects them on it. Now she is a nurse in a seniors home so making mistakes here is a big no-no because they are in charge of looking after the well-being of these elderly patients. We have had so many times where we thought she would be fired because there were so many people out to get her. Just today, we received word that she needs to come in to talk to her boss because my mom is being blamed for one of the residents passing away and for making another resident sick so she needed to be hospitalized. First, she wasn't anywhere near him when he died because it wasn't her shift. Second the woman who was hospitalized would only accept medication from my mom and would fight with any other nurses so they needed to hospitalize her. Now how on earth she is being blamed I have no clue as she is the most professional one there. She picks up other people's tasks and goes above and beyond to make sure everything is written down and sent off to family/doctors etc and cares so much about the patients. A higher up told her she wouldn't get her pension when she has been there for 10 years and is able to retire, but why say that? Anyway, this whole thing is stressing me out because we just moved and got settled and now she might be canned. They put her on sick leave till the situation can be taken care of.

Honey unfortunately they do this all the time. I am an older worker too and you could have put my name in your post. People are just mean and when they dislike you they will lie cheat. Do everything possible to get rid of you. If I were her during this time I would find another job which is what I am doing. Cut her losses and get the h*ll out of there. Then report them to the social service board and get their license removed.

So she just told me she was fired so she is now on sick leave and vacation time till May 5th which is when her retirement starts. After ten years they finally got what they wanted but my mom went over to a couple places to ask about employment so we won't be scrapped for cash and they seemed to all like her.

Oh man that sucks. But the face they are giving her sick time until her retirement kicks in seems like they are getting ride of workers who have been there awhile. I've seen this done in my present job as a way to cut cost.

Nursing homes are politics and neglect. Unfortunately, you must CAREFULLY navigate one to remedy the other. They are very hard places to work, especially if you are a hard worker and have empathy and compassion. I know this seems backwards, but the lazy and uncaring outnumber.......dramatically

"A higher up told her she wouldn't get her pension when she has been there for 10 years and is able to retire"

Certainly, they can not keep your mother from drawing her pension, since she made 10 yrs, correct?

If not, it will be time to go to battle for it! I've seen a company that tried to do that to an employee. The employee was a client where I worked (financial advisor service industry). We helped get her money for her. Well, helped research what she must do for her to get it, more precisely.

If they offer your mom a lump-sum payment, she will need financial advice. Most companies like Edward Jones, Merrill Lynch, UBS, etc. will help for free (in hopes to win your mom as a client).

I hope all goes well. Hugs to you and your mom.

Luckily they were just full of it, she will be getting her pension but its $1500 less than what she was making (Usual here) so I got another job to help out. She wants to work part time and work on her art which she gave up when she started nursing. Thank you for you advice though! always appreciated.

My Hospital gets rid of experience workers get replaced by new ones that don't get paid as much. Since I was a student I've seen this happen twice already. We don't get paid enough for what we do. I also left a toxic workplace. There's a huge problem with healthcare here in the states why are they letting go of nurses so easily and letting them get bullied? It's all about money

please DO NOT quote ANY SELECTION of my post. thank you. have a good day.
