I am coming out of a period of unemployment and major depression. My life on paper is zero. I need to quickly change this. Any ideas? Should I immediately start temp work or something like that?

only you can say whether you should sign up for a temp agency. for me I have in te past found them to be very helpful.

That sounds like a plan. Many employers these days choose permanent employees from temps. You can also put in some apps for any permanent openings that you may hear about and are interested in.
Thanks for this!

Some ideas off the top of my head...

Can you volunteer somewhere?
Work a couple of part time positions that beef up your resume?
Focus on your skills rather than your work experience on your resume?

I think the temp agency is a great place to start!
Thanks for this!

I have always volunteered. In 20 years of continuous volunteering I got one job through volunteering. Not complaining. I never volunteered to get a job.

I have been working part-time jobs for years and then because of my major depression this past 18 months I let part-time jobs slide away. I could kick myself in the butt!!! I am going to go for a full-time job now but also will look for an immediate pt job or temp work.

I am not sure what to say about the job gap of almost two years.

I think I started this thread because I am nervous about interviewing and going back to work after a two-year gap. Lately I have been thinking that I need more responsibility, not less.

If there is a truth it is this. Weathering a major depression and coming out of it is something one should be able to put on a resume! Until recently I had little help or support, and I have to say the support I have gotten from Psych Central in the past six months has been major.

I think that I have been able to come on here and talk has helped the most. I like the feedback. I think all of this got my brain working again.

I don't think I can mention in a job interview that oh, well, my sister died and it caused me to enter a major period of depression and I fought my way out. But that is what I have been doing. I have worked through issues of grief, trauma, identity, life path, mood, and etc. It has not been easy. I have persistent, and I never gave up. I think these are good qualities to bring to any job.

It helps for me to say this. I told a relative tonight that every step I take out of depression is a step forward. I never want to go back...

I never want to retrace those steps...

Maybe job searching is difficult But IDK...I think kicking depression to the curb may have been harder.
