For the past 4 years I have worked as a home health aid to 2 paraplegic patients. I love my job, but I am at a point where I am just really stressed and burned out. One of my patients is incrediblY controlling and micro manages me. I know she means well but 4 years of that constant pressure and woreload is starting to take a toll on me. Pair that with me having days off that are spread out (mon/wed) always working weekends and housesitting for them a couple times a month and it just leaves no time to spend with my loved ones or even just unwinding my mind. There are 2 other coworkers. They have been here a lot longer than I have, but I feel like I have proven to be a good and valuable worker. I am just feeling like I get the short end of the stick. All that stress is getting to me and spilling over into not only my work performance but my personal life as well. I need advice. I do not want to quit, but I need a break and I am just not getting it.

It sounds like so much stress and it's important to catch it before it gets impossible to manage. You know that being in the healthcare industry. You all work so hard and your work situation even more so.
You're stressed. In fact, you realize you are way too stressed. You know your job better than anyone. We are here to support you. What are your options so you can lower your stress? Include ways to reduce home life stress, if you can. Brainstorm ideas and we can support you. Stress is the worst. Thinking of you. PS: Welcome to the forums! This is a supportive community. ![]() |

Can you share about your difficulties with anybody at work who would be sympathetic and emphatic towards you? Sometimes it's good just to offload with someone who understands the job... Hope things improve for you bless!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Take some time off if you can to get a good rest and if you can - talk to your patients about their behavior and what is bothering you. You care for them so much and you deserve to be treated with kindness and respect. ![]() |

HappyFeet02 - hope things are a little better for you... have you found any solution(s) that might work for you to give you the break that you need? My Italian grandmother always said, "They always beat the horse that pulls the hardest" (i know, this is rather ghastly, but she came from a rougher world). In my own life, I've found the more I've shown I can handle, the more capable I've seemed to others, therefore the more work that gets steam shoveled my way... (ah, bipolar mania - its' a blessing and a curse!)
I hope you can assert some of your rights at work to get some reprieve. Take care Bolivar |
