Ok before I begin, Some people think that since its against Federal law to discriminate against hiring felons that this has to be upheld at the State level.
This is not the case however, States are allowed to be totally separate from Federal law, for example, Colorado and Washington, marajauna is legal however
It is still illegal according to Federal law, I don't you figure that one out.

I have never had an interviewer tell me flat out I can't have the job because I am a Felon. It was for a cashier job at Circle K in Louisiana. I have had jobs working with money after my Felony in Wisconsin. I'm not saying that Wisconsin is better be no means. I am just tired of looking for a job and not getting anywhere.

Now to the point, If addiction is considered a disease that effects every aspect of a persons life couldn't it be considered a disability? Not for monetary gain but for certain programs that help disabled people. I know a lot of you will disagree and that's ok I'm not on a soapbox or anything, I just want to see if someone else feels the same. I know for a fact I am powerless to make the right choices when I use drugs and alcohol. And yes it is a choice but me as an addict has a hard time with choices. Put it this way, how can an intelligent, educated man choose to continue to use a substance that just an hour ago had him on the floor thinking he was dying?

Yes, i think addiction is the coping mechanism for a mental illness in many cases (not 100%, im not doctor). So, why should we not help support the sick people? Why not have more resources to do what you said, and provide programs?

So what if a person was additiced to say cigarettes or M&M's? Thats where claiming addictions as disabilities becomes a pain because eveyone will claim their own personal addicition as a disability. And yes believe it or not their are Dr's that will sign off on such cliams.
