So, I am 24 years old, and am currently in university. I have been going for
a couple of years now, but I have not declared a major (my program is
Bachelor of Arts). I am very interested in History (major) and Writing (minor)
as well as getting a certificate in a language (French). However, I am unsure
whether or not this is a good choice.

When I think about what career options are available to me, I feel very
limited. I am fairly introverted and have social anxiety, and I have absolutely
no math or science skills. I feel as though most jobs that offer security or
good wages require skills that I do not have.

Some of the qualities that I do have, however, are fairly good writing skills, attention to detail, good organizational skills, and a passion for non-profit organizations/causes.

I am planning to see a career counselor, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

There probably isn't a direct career path unless you work in education or a museum or historical organization. You could reflect on you strengths and target a particular category of jobs that fit your strengths. Some categories that might fit your major/minor include legal, education, research, writing/editing, business analysis, and information management. I think the key is following your curiosity and getting a start somewhere...anywhere. You get experience and more branches of job possibilities open up.
Thanks for this!

Hello EglantineRose: I see you list depression & anxiety as being conditions with which you struggle. These have always been problems for me as well. I don't have any particular vocational recommendations for you. But may I suggest a book that might be of some interest to you as you strive to find your career path? It is:

Let Your Life Speak- Listening for the Voice of Vocation by Parker J. Palmer, Jossey-Bass, 2000.

I know people who have said that reading this small book changed their lives. I recommend it highly!

Have you considered technical writing, or marketed writing for non-profits? Non-profits need people who can write well and document, as well as explaining their missions and goals to the public.

----be sure to volunteer or intern in areas you are interested and talk to people in those fields Also consider security, such as job security and retirement. I dont know what retirement funds canada has. Here teaching jobs have good retirement plans. Much less security now w budget cuts, however.
