Today I went to my interview for amazon. We took the same assessment test that we took online and did a tax form thing. We then took a drug swab test and listened to two of the employees there talk about what to expect from there. We should get an email in 7-10 days. The guy there said that I was hired.

I'm confused. Sounds stupid, but what if I fail the test and the background check, then what? I don't take drugs, but I took two valium earlier. Will that matter to them or not?

I sure hope not! It's for a warehouse job. I get to choose my hours I think, and the hours will be 29 hours a week or less and it's seasonal for now. The pay is good since they pay $13.50 an hour. It'll be demanding work as I'll be walking 4 or more hours a day and lifting up to 49lbs., but not all the time. That'll help me me loose weight for sure-

I heard that it's a horrible place to work at. My friend told me that it is. God, I need this job so badly!!!! My husband didn't pay my credit card bills yet which is so frustrating! UGH!!!

Sorry if I was snappy at some of you in a previous thread. I am truly going through hell right now as some of you know. It's to much for me to handle at once. Especially since I suck at dealing with stress! This will help if I do get the job for sure.

I got an email telling me that my background check is pending. So, did I get hired for sure or not?

Why on earth did you choose to take Valium before a drug test?

Hopefully they're not trying to test for benzos, you never know though. I wouldn't consider myself hired until I have a start date.

Keep looking, you never know what can fall through, keep applying places and going on interviews.

In the future, I don't care if you're shaking like a leaf, DON'T TAKE ANYTHING before a drug test.
Thanks for this!

Hi Shy Introvert

It sounds like you're hired, if you pass background and drug screenings. If you have been prescribed the valium, and can provide a dr's note to that effect, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck, I hope it all works out for you!

Well, I had NO idea that it'd be done on the spot! Also, generic valium can last in the body for awhile as do most drugs, legal or not. My god, they can suck it if they are going to vilify me for taking a legally prescribed medication that I need, ha ha!

Thanks. To be honest though, that guy who stated that to me might've been dead panning for all I know. He was like, oh, even pajamas are OK to wear, just not restrictive clothing or any super baggy stuff that could get caught in machines.

He did tell me that I came prepared when I asked him who I could leave my well written resume and cover letter with. He told me that it was great that I came prepared-

I hope that won't prevent me from getting this job. It's not like I'm on crack, lol!

I'm glad you can laugh, you're the one who needs a job. You don't realize when you're working with machinery that benzos slow your reaction time down and can cause you to be injured.

Most jobs give drug tests, you should always be prepared to take one.
Thanks for this!

Fingers crossed for you, I've heard the time limits for order picking are very tight so it can be quite stressful but it's only seasonal so if it doesn't suit you it won't be forever. Look on it as another bullet for your resume.

Thanks. I'm not sure if I'd be working with machinery or not. It sounds like I'd just be finding and stocking stuff. I'll keep that in mind next time and not take anything and hope that I don't end up panicking.

Thanks. From what I read on here, they do expect a lot of their employees, and if I need to take a half hour break and the break room happens to be all the way on the other side of the warehouse, then I'll literally have 5-10 minutes to eat, ugh!

Also, I heard that it can either be very hot or very cold in there. I'm applying for a more sane job later today as well as a few other places that are nearby.

Albeit you're working with machines I've never heard of someone's blood being tested for benzos at a job interview. Your drug test will be fine.

Neither have I. It was a swab test. We had to put it in our mouths for 10 minutes. I couldn't even drink water until it was done. Like I said, it's not like I do crack, so hopefully I will be fine- lol!

Well if it's prescription and you have anxiety I should think it would be discriminatory to rule you out on this.

You're probably right about that. I doubt that I'll take their offer if they do give me the job as I heard way to many bad things about the company. I did my research and I didn't like what I heard. I can do better than that.

Shy Introvert, speaking as someone who has done the hiring before, it sounds like you are "hired pending background check." Which means that they could still rescind the offer and that it's not entirely yours yet until you pass the background check and drug test and have an official start date. It does sound like everything is lining up though. I don't think the valium will affect your hiring. If they choose not to hire you, they should tell you if it's because of a background check or failed drug test. If it's a prescribed medication, it shouldn't cause you to fail the drug test.

I would keep looking while you wait for an official start date (just to be safe), but it does sound fairly solid, pending background check and drug test. All of my hirings have been made as offers pending background checks, and we have to do our due diligence. As long as there is nothing on your background check, sounds like you will have a start date soon.

Congrats!

Thanks Seesaw. I won't accept the job if offered one at amazon as I said before, I just heard way to many bad things about that company. The breaks are a joke as if you're all the way at the end of the warehouse, you'll spend most of your break going to and back there. And there aren't enough restrooms for employees, and they're dirty too. No thanks!
