I just got off the phone with a lady from JCPenney. I have an interview tomorrow at 2 pm for a seasonal sales associate position. Situations like this just make me so anxious. It took me forever to work up the nerve to even call her back. I really need to go to this interview but I'm afraid I'll bail because I'm too nervous
![]() This is very important to me. I currently live at home with my parents, broke and with way too much time on my hands. I need a job desperately. Does anyone have any tips? How do I remain calm before/during the interview?

browneyedgirl,
Congrats on the job interview! So here are my tips: 1. Remember that you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. Put together a list of questions you have about the job and be prepared to ask them (usually at the end of the interview). 2. Remember that this lady is just a person too. She is no better or worse than you. She is just a human being. You have as much power as she does. 3. Google standard interview questions and rehearse your answers for each. This will help you feel comfortable as they ask questions you have prepared for. 4. Dress to impress but be comfortable. Make sure you look professional but feel comfortable in your interview outfit. Good luck! seesaw

Everything seesaw said. Also some vocational/psychiatric rehab places have mock job interviews where you can practice.
Try deep breathing and visualisation exercises. If you get terrible anxiety, consider seeing a doctor for a small dose of a betablocker or benzodiazepine to take beforehand. |

I try to treat the person that is interviewing me as a friend that I will have a pleasant conversation with and try to put the outcome of it out of my mind. If your mind believes this interview is a scary, overly important event, the worry and anxiety take focus. Think friendly conversation and be curious about them and the job.

The only advice I can give is preparing something, maybe written... try to imagine what they could ask and prepare soma answers

It appears by the date of the original post that the interview is over. But I want to say this just in case somebody else is reading.
Practice, practice, practice, practice! A speech or interview or any kind of interaction, practice is the best way to get over fear. Practice makes confidence. |
